I understand that a ota map converted t ospring is almost exactly the same size in relation to the units but would it show up as half the size of the ota version? :?
Nope, to summarize:

Noize: a 8X8 map is 8X8 due to the size of units in spring

Forb: But the texture is x times as large!

The combined truth: Map textures are double the resolution which means they have to be 2 times as large. However spring has the units scaled so they are in the proper scale as OTA. So 8X8 is 8X8 in spring.

now see where this is leading to! confusion allover :o

16x16 in ota is exactly the same as 16x16 in spring. Some people tend to make it bigger, because they think that spring halves it size, but this ain't true.

no worries, just (almost) exactly the same. (ota=25 peewees, spring=23peewees)

I said that a long time ago, but everyone just ignored me.

So this means...that Springs maps are the same size, but with more pixles. Thats good right, cause the maps are less fuzzy.

Now I have a headach. I'm going to lie down.

no, it means that the units were roughly half the size in ota as they are in spring, so therefore the map dimentions were half the size as well.

But the textures remain the same?

no.

a 16x16 map in ota uses a texture size of 4096x4096 pixels

In spring a 16x16 map uses a texture size of 8192x8192 pixels

This effectively means that the maps in spring are twice as big as in ota, HOWEVER, the units have been scaled in spring so that they are 98%(or so) bigger, so therefore the maps size is relatively the same.

So...what was the point of this thread again?

Forboding means height map pixels or something because as i have explained in earlier post the texturemap dimensions are nearly the same... OTA just got lower res height map!

This is the most hillarious topic I have ever read, I thank you all (when I stop pissing myself....)
Seriously it went into confusion for some, then was elequently explained in very clear terms by Smoth and Sinbad only to be re confused all over again.
If someone cannot understand this concept by post number 20, topic page 1
they never will. 8)

Actually, I found this quite illuminating. Before I thought that OTA and Spring map sizes are the same (8x8 MH -> 8x8 MH). Now I know that OTA and Spring map sizes are the same, but the Spring maps have double the resolution.

I guess the take-away point is that they are only the same because the units and weapon ranges were scaled up with the texture map?
