Meh. Reflective water works fine. Not worth the effort

The new dynamic Water works very good at my rig:
PNY Verto Geforce 6 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 (415/1110)
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (oc @ 2650Mhz)
RAM MDT 2x 1024 MB DDR 3200
Forceware: 84.37

So i'm guessing my inferior FX 5700 doesn't support SM3? gah...that's great...now I need to upgrade, I DONT GOT THE FRIGGIN' MONEY, this was a hand me down anyway.
Anyone able to send me some my way? a new card or money? lol

sadle, 95% of all Spring players doesn't have SM3 support. (this is my own conclusion, and not based on real investigations).
A SM3 supporting card isn't very expencive anymore. you can grab a very decent x1300 from 120$, an nVidia 6600 may be even cheaper.

You can get GF 6600's in the UK for between £33->45 at
http://www.ebuyer.co.uk
Current GB pound sterling is worth $1.88, you do the math..

This is weird, I've tried the updated drivers and everything. I wasn't expecting *great* performance, but my system should definately be able to handle more than it seems to be doing.
Another interesting note is that it doesn't seem to matter how much water there is on the map - I got the exact same framerates and bizarre network lag on Castles (with the tiny centre lake) as I did on Aftershock (Island map) - and it doesn't really make a difference whether I'm looking at the water or not.
Here's the relevent specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Geforce 6600 (runs most shader FX fine in other games, and I can run spring really well with ALL the other features on like shadows etc)
RAM 2x512MB Crucial BallistiX PC4000
If someone could help me figure this out I'd be supremely grateful. I have no idea why I'm getting such crazy performance...

Water is always rendered all over (or under) the whole map i think, so it doesnt matter how much water there is on the map, as Spring renders it (or atleast calculates it) no matter where it is.

ok, you do need the latest drivers. I just tested it with my old PC
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.2
6600GT
512MB RAM
its had the 81.92 drivers and was getting about 6-7 fps. i upgraded to 84.25 drivers and it was getting a steady 20 fps. and this was with everything turned at max expect for shadows and dynamic water at 1024X768. i did a battle with a friend so it was with two people and we had a whole game with it and he said it was running great.

actually I DON'T get the poor performance on all-land maps, so presumably it isn't bothering to draw water when its underground...or do all-land maps not have a 'water table' at all?

Now i installed the latest nvidia drivers from guru3d (forceware 84.56 WHQL)
No change, framerate 11-13 when water in sight, may pop to 30 when looking straight up in the sky. This does not seem to be a display driver issue but a issue with the coding of the effect (this is the 4th driver im testing with, and i'm not the only one who experiences the problem)
but then again, who am i to tell, i am no coding expert.
It would be really nice to get some kind of response from the developers of what they think must be going on here.
ps. oh, i forgot to mention earlier, i also get the sync errors when playing single player on my own computer if i set gamespeed to 2x or more, with <2x gamespeed i only get this bad fps and horrible mouse pointer lagging behind.

mine lags too but only for about 3 seconds right when the game starts. i assume its just the graphics card starting up the water. after that i get about 30 fps. with everything on.
specs:
geforce 6800GT 256Mb overclocked
p4 HT 3.4Ghz
1 Gb RAM
i have the new beta nvidia drivers 84.43

because thats why i bout it
(i would have a 6600 but but PSU cant run one

)
