Very nice model!!
Are the blade individual pieces that can be scripted to flail with the wind?
I can provide the Shai-Hulud when the time comes:

(sorry I know it's old and I have posted it many times already but I can't help it)

Indeed, I would love a RTS with the explosive shield - laser reaction of the Dune universe.

What are you talking about? Dune 2 launched the gender, it is the father of all RTSs.
Maybe you are too young to have played Dune 2 in it's time but i know i did in my 386 at 25 MHz with 4MBs of RAM and it was godly by the standards of the time (independently of the folowing ones beeing good or not).

I would suggest Money+Energy for resources... Spice was only harvested for it's financial value as a food product... not really something you could concider as something needed in the construction of units... but you can concider mining spice to be the equivalent of mining money in the Imperium.

Yes, each blade is individual - very cool picture,

already given the worm some thought, could use a little modeled geometry to give the rippling sand effect when the worm is on the move - the only problem I can see is making sure it stays within the desert area, as suggested earlier the best way would be perhaps to tie it to a texture/textures if its possible.
Still yet to get something ingame

is their a test script that I can simply swap around the converted model format?
Regards!

wow, was thinking about starting up a dune based mod myself, something in the style of dune 2 but now i saw this, great windtraps man. Are you making the models in 3do or s3o?

I do have to say, I like the model, the shadowing on the render makes it look ALOT more impressive however....
but alas, are you willing to take some load off my chest and help me texture my models??
I allready have them UVW mapped... but meh, I've got too many projects goin at once to worry bout my building models as of right now.. but to say, if you were helping do building / dune models that could at least be incorporated with mine, together for a dune mod, or just reg. old TA, teamwork is GOOOD encouragement to get me goin again....
gimmie a shot, maybe we can help eachother...

Hi, thanks - not sure on file format, whats ever supported better by spring I guess?
Im already overly busy with graphics and other work in general to provide help in texturing!

I tend to just sit down, model, uv and texture in one afternoon then its at least mainly done and dusted.
I sometimes bake the shadows, but generally add the shading myself depending on the requirements of the project. Alpha transparencies need to be supported desperately by Spring, would be great improvement.

okay... it's a drug and or a food... it's still like mining for money. or in the case of spice... picking it up off the ground.

It is one of the best movies ever made
Indeed. It's much better than the new trilogy. At least the used "real" sand and not computergenerated one and additional it has a much better atmosphere (darker) in general.
PS: The wind traps could be an advanced wind generator for Absolute Annihliation (but maybe it shouldn't look like so similar to dune :) )

The spice melange was not just a food product! it was the bases of space travel. People who take enough become navigators, and can navigate the Guild starships through the Imperium. The navigators need the spice to continue to function.
The reasons behind the navigators and mentats and a bunch of other people that basical do things normall ocupied by navcomputers and calculators and tractors and such is traced back to the Butlarian Jhiadd (and i spelling that right?) where humainkind fought tooth and nail with the thinking machines. THe thinking machines unleased biological wepaons, whitch is why the humains have a HUGE adversion to a verity of effective biological wepons, and the humains responded by nukeing the CRAP out of the machine planets, witch is also why nukes are forbidden in Dune. The deathhand missile is really just a huge bomb. or at least it should be, but considering how sifty the Harkonnes are, you never really know...
The Ordos were never in the book, but i applaude the Westwood team for makeing a royal house that actually fits in with the other houses (Atreites, Harkonnen, Ix, Telaxu, ext) and into the entire Dune mythos. Actually the Ordos are more simmaler to a mix between the Ix and the Telaxu, but with slightly more emphasis on the Ix. The Ix and the telaxu had bit parts in Emporer: Battle for Dune, and were faithfull to their actual persona's in the books, were the Ix had been recently freed from the Telaxu's controll of the Ix's planet.
Now the teams, if this mod is ever made, really should be Atredies, Ordos, Harkonnen and Sadukar (am I spelling that right?). The Sadukar are just too damn cool to play bit parts, like they did in Emporer. I mean the only people who could defeat the Sadukar would be the Fremen, and thats because the Fremen could own anyone. If your going to make a Dune mod, read Dune, Dune Messia (then stop as the next few books by the late Frank Herbert get increasingly insane and wird. I mean, really, by the fourth book in the sieres all the main charicters are either dead or mutated into a gigantic worm thingy...). Then read House Atredies, House Harkonnen and House Corrieno, as they set up the Dune mythos EVEN MORE, and are incredably fun to read! (its almost as if Frank Herbert GAVE his writing talents to his son, then went crazy and died). For even MORE detail go read the Butlarian Jhiad, The Machine Crusiade and the Battle of Corrin, all of which are incredably fun and put a really...really...really cool spin on the tired "thinking Machines" idea.
Oh now an RTS, set in the Butlarian Jhiad with the three teams being Humains (Plucky Apes from Earth) Cymecks (humain brains in robotic bodys kicking ass in general) and the Machines (Slow, implacable and unstopabble!) fighting it out in bombed out citys, ruined and blasted planets and the radioactive swill hole of the Earth! Now that would be really COOL, even if it will play nothing like the original Dune games.
PS: "Good Health and Long Life is the gift of the Spice" is not just a flippent adage. Small dosages of the Spice will make people live longer, see better, and in general feel nice. Oh and your eyes start to glow BLUE!

VERY nice model/textures, if EA sees that they might hire you on the spot lol...

I CAN NOT agree more, I have stressed this point OVER and OVER again and I am growing tired for them not listening, this is required for my mod to make it look half way decent.

Well, i did play dune II and super dune backe then, on my old 386.
Yet, from todays perspective, the game has a distinct lack of replay value even in the campaign, as all missions are just the same.
I know that Dune II somewhat founded the genre, but all its followups were just copy-cates of C&C, like a dune mod for the C&C of these days.
(Dune 2k, Emperor)
Can some kind of harvesting behavior of a mobile units be done in spring ?
That would be awesome and make for far more diversity in gameplay if there was a mod that used mobile harvesters instead of stationary mines.
The ressources in the dune games always were money only, generated from harvested spice, and wind for energy.
While this mod is a nice idea and themed mods are always sweet to look at, you have to be careful that it does not suffer the fate of SW-TA, which did not fully succeed in conveying the atmorsphere of Star Wars and offered little new gameplay, so it gets hardly played.

The spiceBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH Stuff I know because I've read the books...
do you doubt my nerd cred? I read the first dune book back in grade 11, that was like 1997, you were probably still reading Piers Anthony back then... and I saw the movie earlier still...
I know the what the freaking spice is... and it's still a drug taken directly or added to food... YOU DON'T MAKE SPACE SHIPS OUT OF IT!!!
PS:
No real Dune Fan would encourage people to skip the later real books and start reading the prequals... I've only read 3 of those so far and I've never played the games do I guess you can doubt my Nerd-Cred if you want...

I can't see hovercraft being needed in Dune. So make sand the only terrain hovers can use and make the worm a hover.
The four 'flavours' - ship, kbot, vehicle and hover - are already there.
I don't mean the worm should be a hovercraft - just a hovercraft class. If you see what I mean.

Well you never used the spice itself as a resourse in the games. You sold it for credits, then bought units from teh spaceing guild.
Also i tried reading the later books and they got really bad. And, ironicaly, in 1997 I was in sixthgrade, reading Pires Anthony AND Dune. And Enders Game, and...well...pretty much every sci-fi or fantasy book i could get my grubby hands on!
