You also imply that preventing people from sending text to the server will not prevent them from spamming the server with text.. that, to, makes a lot of sence! Thank you! :-)

No, he's implying that an /ignore only filters away the commands from the receiver (that would be you) The message still has to be sent to the server and then redirected to you. So it still causes major server stress.

And since thats what the spammers want (witch is what he's implying.

Edit: And your also implying that you are a total asshole. Thank you for your excelnent thougts on the subject.

Meaning have the server completely ignore any messages he attempts to send, kind of like blocking IP, but he can still join games and host games and hear other people's messages, but can't do any damadge. :)

Blocking an IP doesnt make the bandwidth dissapear...

Many cases where damage to a server udner DDOS ahs been averted by dropping the packets but those apckets where still being sent, saturating the bandwidth, and since this is something in the server that will do it, the server will still have to use resources to handle the connection from the IP lookup on a badlist and discard the conenction or let it through, which affects all connections not just blacklisted ones.

And better solution would be to have the server seperated in 2 with one as a gamehost routing messages, and the other handling logins/logouts/player experience and player status, so if you're ignored you dont see the ignorer as being online at all and the rest of the ignorance is performed by the client which is under the imrpession the user if offline so you cant send emssages to them.

How about just prevent players from even being able to send more then a certain amount of text, stop it clientside, problem solved.

But that is all irrelevant, there is no reason not to allow people to use /ignore. Please do not deny that fact.

Hmmm....

That makes a LOT of sence! Thank you for your usefull insights! :-)
And no. I did not imply that adding /ignore will make it crash more often.

I asked you what harm adding /ignore could do, and you brought up crashing.

Hijack YOUR thread? Bwuahahaahha

Look, Azu, pm betalord, tell him your sorry, never spam in any server channel again, all is good. However, making thread after thread and hijacking other threads could get you banned from these forums as well, thus removing your channel for getting bans removed (thus, bad idea)

If you have a good enough internet connection, set up your own server (you can get it off the download page) and invite all your friends to your spam fest. At the end of the day you will understand.
