Alternatively, the old method still works. You can put parts of your unit in corresponding folders in the Spring root dir, and it'll work. You just have to make sure you do the download TDF right.

Hello!
I'm currently doing a mod called Gear Commander, and I am wondering if there is anything you can do about trouble with importing .3ds files? When i try to import my file all the objects come out okay as well as the uvmapping, however the hierarchy tree is all messed up, as are the positions of the modelparts, ie torso is down at the feet, both arms are oriented the same way (one should be flipped) etc etc. It's kinda annoying if i'm gonna have to redo and rearrange every model i want to get into the game. I'm using 3ds Max v 5.1

Hmm. Tried it: Interface = good! How do you zoom in with the 2D views though?
However, I made a modified texture pack thing (Cavedog textures + TLL textures + some of my own), zipped it, told UpSpring where it was, and now it crashes on startup with a "Buffer overrun detected!" error

How do you create new texture packs? Do you really need to write each filename (texturename) in the grouplist?
And yes.. how do you zoom?

centurion: I have reproduced the 3DS problem, but I haven't found the cause of it yet.
guessmyname: middle mouse button.
can you upload the texture pack that is causing problems? I can load it from the sy server then...
you can build groups with the Texture Groups dialog found in the Settings menu.

I can't zoom with the middle mouse! In 3D view I can zoom using the right mouse button and in the 2D views I can't zoom at all
Oh and I found the problem with the texture pack. Basically, I'm an idiot

Hmm, maybe something is wrong with my setup but neither colors nor textures show up right.
I have dled 1.3 two times and the solid colors still show wrong and the textures are upside down.

Smoth are you using 3do textures? If so that might explain it. Upspring has some serious issues with 3do texturing wither its textures or colors they all show up in the wrong orientation. Bug Zaphod till he fixes it.

it is cool, what about the issue with colors that are applied to faces?

Zaphod. A few requests for the next release:
1) Pivot point coordinates/easy to change like moving objects.
2) Horizontal scroll bar for the Object listing for those with abnormal number of objects.
3) A baseplate generation tool. This would be greatly appreated.
4) Proper displaying of Texture map under "Show UV Mapping." The current system messes it up so it doesn't display right.
5) 0-255 RGB system instead of 0-1.
6) Texture Rotation tool for 3do textures.
**Smoth try turning off lighting in Upspring. See if that fixes 3do texture display issues.

lighting was already off.

bob: weird, but I can't do anything about it with this information.
TA 3D:
1: Maybe, animation and scripting are much more important.
2: Maybe too, as I haven't found a way to let the window library actually display the hor. bar.
3: Baseplates only have meaning in OTA, and more importantly there isn't any tag that says "This is a baseplate". Maybe it is implied with no texture or some color, I still have to work that out
4: Could you explain better what is wrong? It works fine for me.
5: Maybe
6: Already implemented (In my WIP version)

4)NVM that.
Anything you done to make things better is allways acepted. Any word on fixes to the s3o format? IE transparency(or what ever you want to call it.) and other items.

AAhhh.... so TA Spring DO NOT need any baseplate object ? and the selection box in game created autonomously by the game engine ?
now I had to add that to the tutorial......

Indeed, in Spring you don't need a ground plate.
a obejct named 'base' isn't required either.
now, go and make units!
