Obviously your parents let you out of the paper-bag long enough to play some Cannon Fodder.

I remember when I first got Descent. I was so giddy to play a Doom-like game in full 6DOF that I immediately phoned my brother at college to tell him about this awesome game.

But anyhow, if we're going to nostalgia, I think I'll point out the first RTS I played:

Hah! I had Wing Commander: Armada! It was... interesting. Obviously a bit inspired by Star Control 1. I could never figure out any coherent strategy in it, sadly. Battles usually broke down into jousting with all guns blazing, and joysticks of the day were only 2 buttons if you wanted 2 players so we'd have to share the keyboard to hit the "switch weapons" buttons.

The single-player campaign was obviously super-repetitive, but still fun.

Also, on the subject of Descent, IIRC Forsaken is now fully free/opensource.

I used to like "Alyssa's Dragon", "Albert's Odyssey", "Puzzle Bobble", "Streets of Rage", "Street Fighter", "Mortal Combat", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", "Spaced Invaders", "Pac Man", and "Super Mario Brothers".
