ZK devs should make it a bit nicer for specs.
specs see a lot of stuff they should not see, for example the voting GUI, or the commander selection GUI.

make it easy to find multiplayer games in different engine from release and I'll test new versions.
you can install test version as portable, copy over the map/mod you need to test, play, and then just delete that whole test folder when you are done. Might need to copy over springlobby as well for multiplayer.

also a bit fail :/
Why the unplayable Imperial Winter or
photoshopped screenshots such as this are so widely mentioned, I do not know.
What really annoys me is that mindset of "oh we just need to be on steam, desua, xbox / slashdot frontpage - and then lots of players will come."
By hoping for such a magic bullets people are trolling themself and making sure they get disappointed everytime they log into lobby.
"Next release fixes everything" is basically the same.
Spring/games has had enough exposure:
zero K had a two-pages article in a big (the largest?) german computer magacine, is on several websites, on reddit it was chosen "game of the day-something etc.
Similiar with evolutionRTS which is on desura, etc.
Did it work?
The reality is that in forums threads about spring games routinely get
little interesst.
Or people start talking about how to solve bugs instead of enjoying the game and discussing gameplay.
Before proposing new epic marketing ideas it should be a requirement to read this review:
http://www.dedoimedo.com/games/spring-rts.html
So maybe spring/games is actually not as good as "we" like to think.

yep, imo this currently the best review about spring... this guy really took some time and wrote what needs to be improved.

Not sure if sarcastic, so just in case: I actually do find that review very good.
This one from 2006 is also very detailed and he actually played quite a bit before writing it:
http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4706
Reactions are also interessting

i can assure you that abma is not sarcastic there. i also like the replay, even though i find it strange that he managed to get over all the initial problems, which were quite some and hard to overcome, but did not manage to get into a multiplayer game.

I'd like to see a simular windows one...
I'm guessing it will be a little easier, though maybe not compleatly easy.
I think Licho and ZK have tried to address some of these issues, and probibly make the whole process a lot easier, however I'm still verry againsed dumping everything in userdata space.
probibly because I'm an sysadmin and keeping gigs and gigs and gigs of stuff there ends up being a pain in the ass. especialy if another user logs in and wants to access the exact same data (maps/mods)
and then you've got the whole 'what if it's a domain roaming profile' thing... oh god the nightmare. (yeah ok so you're not tooo likely to see spring in a domain environment, but hey, can't help but think best practice here)
at least this latest version of the engine makes putting springdata in a different place a bit easer. (archive mover looks to springsettings.cfg to see where to move files)
figuring out exactly where springsettings.cfg is or should be is a little tricky though (spring folder or userspace? when you have it in both, which one wins?)

ZKL supports multiple engines for over a year now..
And you can change path where it stores data ..
The biggest issues are with engine itself..
ATI bugs, crashes, slowdowns

Seems he could not play multiplayer because of the NAT error and when he managed to join:
... was forced to spectate because of my low rank. Thus, multiplayer was no go for me, unfortunately.

BAs hopes and dreams lay in BAR, would you show off a broken phone to friends the day before you got a new nicer one?

I think the review would have read the same even with slightly nicer models.
I doubt even playing zero-K would have made a difference, its ingame UI is a bit nicer but just read the thread for zK problems.
Remember he also used ubuntu, so afaik no zeroklobby.

I agree with knorke. I am about to start treating these advertising threads the same as I treat the "idea guy" threads in games and mods. It is almost always someone who has no idea or has not tried anything.
Look, we have been bouncing left and right trying all sorts of advertising. I honestly don't want to hear another idea. It doesn't matter.. it goes something like:
get player group together
they play for a while
ONE OF SEVERAL THINGS HAPPEN
they either leave or go play DSD
I just get tired of all these "ideas" they do nothing. Yet when a engine dev needs help... no one steps up. Seriously I was in main last weekend begging for players to help the engine devs to test, and not a 1 of you slack jawed leaches would help. Games could be better? that's nice only 2-3 of you help games test. Maps are dated? you won't play anything new. Stolen TA models stigmatize BA outside of this site, I don't see you losers making models.
there are 99 problems and advertising ain't one.

@knorke
wasn't sarcastic. all points of the review where valid, don't see where we really can argue against the conclusion.

does anyone ever actualy say anything in Main?
I'd help test, in a multiplayer envirionment, but the current spring lobby does not really allow that.
maybe I could try ZKL again... but it's been a pain in the past, and seems to change stuff without asking. or at least appeared to.
It's noob friendly but not friendly to those who know what they want and have it setup how they want already. - I don't want multiple engine installs in my userdata space.
