@smoth Asus G74 is pretty good choice and have high specs. It most likely have 2 HDD in raid for increase read and write speed. One thing to consider is make sure Nvidia Optimus technology doesn't become problem with Intel integrated graphics.

are some of example. Good midrange laptop is one that is equipped with core i5 with Nvidia GeForce GT 520M to 555M GPU. And good high end laptop is one that is equipped with core i7 with Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M and above.

One thing to note about this data is that this data is not entirely accurate since it only include people who used SquareTrade's warranty service and exclude those who dealt computer malfunction directly with the company that they bought from.

The problem with these two data is that it is from a survey which may include some biases and may include situation where user may have misused the product resulting in malfunction due to user rather than degradation of the components. Also may include people who taken survey before warranty period is over.

Both of theses sources correctly stated with relative accuracy the most reliable and most unreliable manufacturers with one or two misplaced brands.


As you might know, companies that are labeled on the laptop doesn't really make laptop, but assemble from parts they bought from other manufacturer. One of the laptop barebone manufacturer that also brand the laptop under their name is Asus which intern sell the barebone to company like Samsung and Sony. Samsung in other hand produce many components that goes into laptop like LCD display, SSD, HDD, RAM, ODD, etc which they sell to companies like Asus, Sony, and many others. So you will see similiar quality in Asus, Samsung, and Sony laptop.

Such as problem switching between integrated graphics and discrete graphics.

Another thing to consider when buying laptop with Intel processor is that Intel is going to release 22nm shrink in March or April of next year, so time your upgrade to suit your need so you get best deal.

I have considered the situation and i think i and tech improvement obsolete my laptops faster than anything else.
