Aha, cookies for GZ.

I dont mind helping out in whatever way i can, and I'm astonished to see someone sya I have any C++ skills at all, not long ago people where saying I had none and couldnt spell an if else statement if my life depended on it.

But I have a few suggestions

A decent feature suggestion poll, a great list with good explanations, that is on a continuos poll where people can vote to give features a priority and features people want the most are moved up the list, it'd be better than lots of little threads all over the place.

I could see the site could do with a mroe efficient layout/design, soemthing that would go along the lines of a total redesign, I think somethign like that would have been too much for others who ahev other things...

I guess I'll see what others say before I say ought more.

Good luck SJ. If you need someone to take over whipping the entire SY team into working while sitting back and taking the credit, Alantai and I will GLADLY take turns at that :P

What's this about? We're talking about a new lead programmer here, and the next thing you know is you start talking about how the site should be changed, into some direction I feel you're the only person to be happy with. I don't mean to be harsh, just want to talk back at you, tell how I feel about it

Maybe it's time for _some_ new structuring, but it should be far more 'natural' as Zaphod suggested, where your system is quite the opposite.. Let people develop what they want, the way open source programming is meant to be developed.. Ofcourse you need someone to know some more than others do, and you need some group of people to take desicions and set out some lines in which direction the game's heading, or what should be on the wishlist, but as I said, should be more like how things worked till now with, yes, endless threads about silly details

Let's keep talking :) and thanks for thinking about the future AF

tbh that feature thing would rock, coz the coders would still have a choice of what to do BUT it would be a lot clearer than atm making topics in the general forum. however i agree prioritizing is stupid. they do the damn work! they might as well pick what they want to do!

ppl we already got sourceforge... but now if ppl would actually use it..

Yeah, sourceforge has the bug/feature request system and people should probably use it more... but the voting thing would be be cool...

What people vote as important might be relevent to whoever decides to do stuff's decision. If I'm a developer I'm probably doing the stuff I directly want to fix for my own purposes first, and then sort of flandering through everything else. Plus if somone takes up a job that's on the top of the list and someone else starts bitching about something else being more important then it isn't the fault of the coder, its the fault of the people who made the list.

Gah, Paradox doesn't deserve a good programmer like you SJ! :P

Anyway, I'd be glad to update XTA if everyone is OK with that, this will mean i'll be adding a few of my units in if there is a need for it like Heavy AA Kbot as mentioned in another thread ;)

This is sad... but good luck at Paradox! Next time I see one of their games, I'll buy it.

Anyway, I'm absolutely fine with GZ updating XTA, but for coding, I suggest Zaphod and/or Buggi fill in the gap.

Yeah we need to improve the models for XTA just like in AA Now the Core commander in that Mod Is Reeal Cool :-)

Ya, I nominate buggi if he can find the time... but I somehow doubt he can...

Sourceforge just doesnt have the right vibe I was thinking off, and yah i sorta went off at a tangent there.

But while everybodies suggesting me or zaphod or buggi, I've said no (I got NTAI anyways), buggis not said a word (and has said before he has his own stuff, why burden him with leading spring when I'd rather see thigns like sharpmap adn minispring, or that map editor), or zaphod (whoa lreayd does stuff on spring and has JCAI to deal with).

So is anybody even cosndiering it? Even if they cant do it? While soemthign like zaphod said would be nice I think we need soembody to at least pull everythign togetehr in the aftermath of SJ moving on somewhat, at least so we dotn edn up witht he project going on a downward path, my cvs changes havent been added yet, and I can see how a few other thigns might happen.

If SJ trusts me in updating XTA i'll be more than happy to help out there...

I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to standardize the high poly units for XTA or atleast do what OTA TA did and add the Evolva Units option and add some AA models if they beat the Evovla models.

Perhaps I can keep in contact with SJ so he can guide me on how to update XTA.

aw cmon guys.. what you are thinking? im sure the lead programmer has something to do with balancing xta, as we all have (opinions about it), but im almost sure that he is not the one who balances the mod!, if you look at SY's site, xta page, its another guy who was doing that, and .. in somespring release some name was mentioned as the responsible for that.

we have spring for long long time rigth now :) , so good to have it.

When the new model format becomes standerdised i'l probably pop out a few models, unfortunatley i've had to switch from maya to max recently so that could put a socket wrench in my operation...

The thing is, it's not like any of us regulars are gonna be like "oh, BTW guys, I've acctually been a master programmer all this time and haven't told anyone or done anything, but I want to take on a major responsibility now!"

Most of the good programmers in the spring comunity are either already doing things, or are leaving to work at Paradox. It's hard finding talent that isn't overwhelminly busy.
