Gave up on this and decided to just include different versions of the units. One version for every major game, kind of stupid but oh well. With http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=26888 it should be easy.
gadgets can then check what units to use by checking with unitDefNames["unitname"]~=nil what units were sucessfully loaded.
