Wasn't the next end-of-the-world due in 2012? Did the nutjobs get tired of waiting or something? :P

They're probably going to pick some news article that was published on the 21st, and then say it's "the beginning of the end". The excuse for it not happening yet is that "the end will come slowly".

Went out, expecting purple sky, thunder and fire raining, but no the sun was shining and it was a very beautiful day.

Doomsday prophets need to find a new shtick. Maybe predicting the end of a species? One species dies every day on this planet. Usually some insect or fish nobody cares about.

doomsday predictors should predict their own death and make it true on their own, finally they can be right on something, and everyone wins!

Except it is closer to 100 species/day. Who can even think of/name as many species as become extinct in say, each week?

Also funny how everyone is bashing the religious nutjobs but seems to forgett that modern science likes to predicte the end of human kind as well. For example due to genetic engineering, aids, climate changes or during Cold War due to nuclear war.

Well that's understandable because as a species we are fixated with death.

What knorke?? Modern science predicts end of the world? What??
You know what science is and how it works?

Now link me the articles in peer reviewed journals predicting end of the world based on theory tested by replicated experiments.

There are several universes that have collapsed already.. so worlds can end.

And if you take the world, as "the known world", it can end pretty bad. For the Greenland Vikings the world ended some centurys ago. For the Roman Empire the world ended some hundred years ago. For the Mayas the world ended (although long before they predicted it - and it wasnt the gods coming down upon them, actually it was the fruit of ignorance beeing hit on the head by ignorance which had to grab for sience because it was competing with other ignorance)

So if christianity predicts a local end of there world(view). Godspeed and Good ridance to them - and they stopped existing happily ever after..

Also find it pretty fascinating, that when religion shows its most ridicolous, shity darksided face - the very same which already killed millions of people by preventing pest cures, nobody of the religOisters raises his head and says "we are sorry for inconvinience". No Sir, if Gods plan phails in human errors, its one single group that phails and flails, not all of them. But if one atheistideology runs mental (driven by the vey same religious people, just meddling a nice idea into another religion without god) suddenly line up for a free-hits-on-every-unbeliever pinata.

Must be big-o-trial waiting for them.

Well obviously all "omg the large hadron collider will destroy the universe" basically works like

cba to find links on it but killing off human kind by nuclear war seemed very real to some politican experts at some times.
ie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_Clock

Now link me the articles where major relgions really predict end of the world in a close time frame. Not vague stuff like "there will be a time where mankind will have to pay for its sins" but like the 2012 thing.
It is always by some small cults or few people and the media just picks it up.

Stuff told/thought by scientist != science..
