I will try it later.

if you cannot tell what is wrong with the model on the right... you have a penis for a tongue.

Can we get a side by side by side with the new version, for future reference?

it came out the same. exactly the same.

So, whether or not you changed those settings, you're still the welding getting broken up by the uvmap? Because those seams look pretty much like the uv cuts from here...

Anyhow, I don't see that with 3DS from Rhino, so IDK, I guess Wings just sucks that way. Maybe go their forum / bugtracker?

So midknight was asking what was wrong.. apparently penis tongue is more common than I thought.

So here you go. This above image has the bad edges highlighted. note the wtf random edge on the back underside.

Of course the local argh will tell you recal normals works great. and can solve this issue.
Image
it doesn't, note the random assed hard edge? Yeah that is garbage.. that is a flat surface and recal normals does this randomly to your geometry. Have fun with the poorly calculated normals lazy people.

Now argh has managed to make a post pretty much saying, well it is wing's fault. That may be true but somehow I doubt it.

Use a different angle...

I explained that in the video, lol, it's not "random", it's caused because you haven't adjusted the welding angle correctly.

Cormort. 2X original size. No welding errors, respects all original welding, so far as I can tell. Required exactly two operations in UpSpring to fix, btw- reset all normals, then used angle of 50. Really hard

actually it didn't but that shows how thorough you are.

Look, 3ds files do not store normals. they break the model down to triangles I wish I still had a link to prove this but whatever. Whenever it is pulled into upspring, upspring is calcing the normals based partially on the ravaged mesh.

Prove it. I couldn't see any difference over here, tbh. With the skin on and lights on, it looks exactly the same.

ImageSTFU. I don't know what you're looking at, but you're not looking at what I just did.

that isn't setting angle 50. I just did it.

Did you Recalculate Vertex Normals first, like you're supposed to? That is not an optional step.

import.. select geometry, recalc normals setting 50.

what else do you want?

by Argh
1. Import... rescale... save as S3O... reload S3O.

2. Object --> Recalculate vertex normals (select all geometry, sorry, I do this on autopilot).

3. Object --> Recalculate vertex normals, 3DO style (select all geometry, setting 50, if you aren't happy with a particular object, select object(s) repeat but use a different setting).
