Not applicable to CA.

You see, The things doesnt actually have to happen. More important is that what's in the mind of the people. Because players know, that CA is constantly changing, they tend not to play, even though it would be stable for many months. It has already happened...

There is an idiom as follow "Consumer is always right." And this idiom is always true, even though the consumer would be complete idiot and the product/service what he is using, would be completely COMPLETE. The truth lies in the mind of the consumer. In consumers mind, the complete product is just broken or uncomplete, even though in reality it could be just fine...

The problem is, that you are not doing business, If you were doing this for profit, you would follow what the consumer is saying, and try to fix that...

SirArtturi actually points out a very common sensual, but important point.

If CA was at least to announce that : HERE THIS IS A STABLE VERSiON, PLAY IT, WE PROMISE NOT TO MAKE ANOTHER IN 6 MONTHS, then people would consider it as "less frequent updated" mod.

At the moment, all I personally see is CA-stable-randomnumbershere version, and, I assume, its just another one of those 260th updates in the last few weeks. Maybe a new version numbering would help? CA 1.0 would sound much "stabler"

You are telling us even if we feature freeze it will do no good because players will still think 'CA? Thats the game that changes all the time.'

Okay good to know.

CA wont be 'done' until its IP free.

New numbering is easy thing. Perhaps it helps perhaps not.

But as people mentioned, when we stopped making new versions for about 6 months our player base went down rapidly.

Perhaps current CA players just like changes from time to time. They are usually small - some models are upgraded etc.

Its possible to declare some version "final" or make it stable again for several months. But that wont stop development. And developers will need to test their changes, so they will try to play it. OR- they will ignore test version and new release will be incredibly buggy.

Think about CA as about engine, it's complete but it can still change and improve.

I think biggest problem is that it is hard to get mod and that it has few players (which is self-reinforcing of course).
Hard-to-get is caused by change to springlobby year ago. Tasclient had springdownloader which was able to get CA quickly. Springlobby promised to have SD's package system but its still not there.
So the best way to get CA is still springdownloader which only comes with tasclient.

Manual download works of course but its 100MB and it *can* change more often than BA. If we find big bugs we release new stable version instantly.

Imo he speaks truth. Why should be complete when its IP free? Is BA and XTA not complete?
Its arbitrary target and has no impact on player's perception.

Probably only way to change perception is to make proper release under different name. Which is still in todo. But since there is just one shot at it, game has to be really working well with nice gui and balance. So its far ahead.
If we release it too soon, t will end like S44. People will try it once and if it has problems they wont bother to retry it later.

This needs several quotations and full caps bold presentation into everyone's face.

I did give you solid names not present in the market.

That aside...

SirArtturi wrote:The point of release complaint is, at least in my case, that you need to "relearn" the game every single time. New things requires new thinking, and new kind of adapting. It frustrates when it happens too frequently. You can't enjoy the game anymore, but you need to put huge effort to learn process and get used to new things, new look etc.

Could you once listen what popularity says, and not deny and ignore! Spring mods are hard concept to learn even for hardcore players. Mods that keeps constantly evolving, makes it even more difficult. That's why BA has become popular, it has stabilized its position and people have learned it.

CA is great thing, I know, but I rather play other, more COMPLETE mods, until CA is done.

Upon attempting to download the latest version and stable version of CA. The download took over 15 minutes and then got stuck at 100% and decided not to install itself. What a waste of time.

Jazcash, please join #CA and someone will personally help you. Don't give up. Even Sefidel is now converted to CA and he hates everything.

It actually IS installed.

You wont find it in mods.

I would've thought the download window would have closed or at least said the dl is done. The dl was going ok and then I waited at 84.34/84.80 MB or something similar for about 10 minutes before closing it. When I tried to join a CA game it just asked me to dl it from 0% again so I thought "fuck this".

I'd love to play CA, and am willing to sit around asking and listening to help to get it work. However, a lot of people wouldn't.

Never seen that behavior. Really, the only time I had a bad bug with CA Downloader was yesterday - it must have gotten confused when CASpring.org was down or something, because I had to close it down and restart it to fetch the latest 1fac.

and, to reiterate:

http://files.caspring.org/snapshots/latest.sdz.php

That gets you the latest stable. No Springdownloader required.

If the OP was saying the exact opposite i would agree with him.

ca is most definitely a tech demo. It has lots of fancy demonstrations of tech. if you dont think so your an idiot.

ca is a joke. i generally dont laugh at something unless its really hilarious, and whenever i play ca i srsly cannot stop laughing. the only time i wasnt laughing was when a roach got launched by newtons into my fusionspam, but when i started launching my own roaches i was laughing my ass off again too.

jokes are things that are funny, so therefore, ca is a joke.
