CA is not real life.

i thought about the heli thing again
i found the reason why the vtol┬┤s are moving unrealistic is because they move like planes.or better,planes move like vtol┬┤s.
Zpock has written a non vtol diagonal aircraft take-off and land lua,but it might be only useful in ┬┤44.
imagine BA DSD there would be runways...no way.
so i consider planes HAVE to move like vtol┬┤s in a game.
heli┬┤s...if we just change the model...it might look good at the first glance,but if you look closely,the heli wouldnt tilt forwards and backwards or roll,wouldnt it?

the moving aircraft in general always looks a bit unreal in RTS┬┤s,so we should be able to live with it.

I like the look of the helicopters from Avatar. They are visually interesting, would be fun to animate (the blades rotate to change the direction) and they LOOK like gunships.

Doubt it, since the only real-world aircraft with that sort of layout is the Osprey, and it holds them like that for good reason (they become propellors when the wings shift fowards).

I think gamedevs just like that layout because it looks nice and symmetrical, whereas choppers are bizarrely asymmetrical (this also makes them harder to fly)

yeah,there is a bigger stability and the heli doesnt need a back-rotor.

Or maybe, just maybe, there are no new ideas out there. I guarantee I could take your "90's" ideas and find them repeated in 1960s sci fi.

I chose Avatar because it is a high-profile movie that is fresh in most people's minds right now.

Rotors on side is overdone (and the Osprey reputedly crashes more than Vista, but that's not really relevant to a work of fiction).

Needs moar coaxial.
