I've played most of this series and I definitely have to say Shogun was the best, most fun

I especially disliked how the strategy map was made more complicated when movement was no longer 1 plot per turn but instead continues.
This was the reason i stopped playing much TW after the first medieval one.
It just became clumsier to deal with all the movement of all units like that..
Ruined the experience for me.
I still think that if you take Shogun 1 buff up the AI and modernize gfx and controls you got the best TW game in the series.

Also TW is just TOO GOOD; No free mod is ever going to match the quality of its models, sounds and special effects without ripping them wholesale from the game (in which case you might as well pirate it).
Frankly, except for Empire TW, which is a bugfest, the TW series of games are actually some of the last PC games worth buying.
I am working on a Spring mod with formations and squads. I'll probably end up doing most of the formation / squad control in lua - though I was under the impression the engine supported a formation move order. Is that correct?
Pls dont say that TW is to good, in fact free mods are what made it what it is today tbh.
Mods for TW genre made the game 1000000x better than the developers ever expected, believe me ive moded environments units textures e.t.c....
When you come back to the original you are suprised that the developers just didnt bothered spending time to improve the awesome engine they developed.
The engine code is great, the actual art work and campaign work is good but not as great as the ones made by mods, to say the least . The possibilities are endless, problem is the devs hardcoded the engine like hell( one of the reasons i stoped deving MWT games, apart from lack of time). Still the things that are done in geografy files are so awesome you can create random seeds and alter the topografy of the battle map completely.
Except for shogun medieval I and rome total war, in the other series,
the ai is a mess, campaigns are to short and unrewarding for a loong term player, mods completely improved this and this is proven by the amount of people that frequent TW forums, and the amount of projects that are on. The sales went off as well due to TW Center forums.
What you see in total war is one of the best engines ever made, problem is the developers didnt even bothered cheking the imense posibilities the engine offers.
Dont get me wrong i love TW but since i modded it iam just suprised that they didnt even noticed the imense potencial of that engine. IF people think that TW is awesome i can imagine even more awesomeness.
Yet They went in a runing spree to get money fast in ETW, this is a shame though.

As a shogun diehard, just wanted to chime in with shogun > all. Every successive iteration has just dumbed down the combat and added in unnecessary features and units to cover for simplified engagements and a weak AI. Which is not to say that they aren't still a great series and I didn't lose weeks of my life to Rome or Medieval, just that I still think as far as challenge and innovation was concerned, Shogun had it down.
Also, the 3D campaign map would only really make sense in real time - the shogun Risk board type arrangment is far more challenging and AI friendly in a turn-based environment.

True Shogun is probably the best in the series. (I was a shogun die hard playing online).
Medieval Total War 1 was also pretty good.
Its a shame that Creative Assembly insist on hard coding nearly everything. They release a shit vanila product then it takes months for the community to release mods to make the game what it should be.
One of the reasons i prefer MTW2 to RTW is the unit differences it really adds alot of immersion in the game. Apart from that i feel the MTW2 Mods are far superior to the RTW mods and i enjoy them way more. I played both a vanilla MTW2 and RTW campaign and prefered the MTW2 campaign bucket loads more as well as the online experience.
Its a shame Vanilla TW games bar STW and possibly MTW1 suck so bad.
I haven't touched ETW since the day i bought it. Was waiting for mods then they release NTW less than a year later.
Heres hoping STW2 wont be shit.
What i would give for a Total War Engine that was easier for people to mod to their hearts content.

I really do hope they go back to the basics with shogun2...
Everything was way cooler in shogun...not such a hassle to manage spies and ninjas...not such a hassle to move troops or identify land in strategic view and the ui was way smoother more inviting and more peaceful than the later uis which felt much more aggressive with tons of buttons and details.
By the way what is the best mod to get for MTW2 and how does it change the game.

Stainless Steel is probably the most complete/most popular if you just want a MTW2 revamp.
- Harder Game VH/VH is actually Quite hard.
-It includes more historically accurate factions/balance
-New campaign AI
-New Battle AI
-Added realism features (Optional) such as fatigue on campaign map and limited recruitment of high tier units
-More Units + visually better models/textures.
Heres a unit list (a bit outdated as its from 6.1 not 6.3) to show the different factions and tons of new units.
Basically makes MTW2 what it should have been.

My question : is there any currently developed mod similar to Medieval Total war?
I am interested in playing such kind of game, but can not find any.
Or is there any resource related to this (to develope such a mod on spring)?
I appreciate any suggestion.
Many thanks.
this is not the right forum..maybe try in other gaming forum..but anyways..but that game is good, the battle and effect are good, about the weapons.. perfectly done..especially all
