I posted the server deal here, if you can find better, let me know..

Dreamhost is NOT better at all .. its VPS offer shows that for 2GB RAM i have to pay $200/month..

It's a joke..

With OVH it's true physical dedicated server, not a VPS, with good enough specs and very good connection.

If you find better deal, let me know..

But please, dont even mention dreamhost crap..

Just running tasserver and chanserver needs hundreds of MB of RAM .. not to mention virtualbox which would not even start on dreamhost VPS..

Besides I should have been more accurate.. It's not clear forum was causing problems, its just something that's hosted by apache, I just assumed it is forum..

If you remember few months ago, when lobby server was disconnecting randomly, that was due to bug in RSS feeds which Tobi eventually found.

Now after further Tobi tweaks server runs fine (no mass disconnect in lobby afaik for several weeks).

I'm just asking for donations to cover part of the cost thats all.

Licho, read what I wrote. I meant hosting of the site and the forums. Not github, not the lobby server, (mantis would be trivial but still...). I wasn't tlaking about hosting everything possibly related to the spring project.

Jesus...

I didn't stutter, I promise...

May donate depending on finances at the end of the month. Barring any unexpected expenditures I should have a little to spare.

I noticed that SPADS opens some obscure connection to servers at kimsufi. I first thought my machine had been hacked 8) but I guess not

Sounds like we could benefit from a good server admin / php admin tweaking apache settings a bit and offloading some stuff to nginix/lighthtppd or whatever.... the numbers are looking way too high for the kind of load these forums bear.

A huge proportion of the bandwidth used by spring and the community runs through my JJ mirror.

Domain Web MB MB/Day Cycle Estimate
Total Bandwidth Used by Domains for these 29 days: 351738.9455 MB 12128.929 MB 363867.875 MB

363gb. Good gawd almighty, I can only imagine how hard darkstars gets hit.

hmm estimate for this months cycle is 390GB for the whole of darkstars, mirror and everything.

So thats less than 1% of my bandwidth allocation, which currently stands at 10TB

Given the Spring forum community is not that massive I'd bet good money on the problem being caused by inconsiderate spiders crawling through years of old posts.

You may find that considerable savings can be had by tracking the highest bandwidth usage by IP and blocking any that aren't Google (Bing be damned).
