That was the whole idea. It's just a system to seperate 'newbies' from more expierenced players.

That is precisely what I want to avoid, Kuroneko; elitist "castes" in the community. The bridge is very hard to span once people have been playing for a long time.

Besides, this is a small community. You should be able to know by now who is good and who isn't. And if you know someone who isn't, its your responsibility to make them good.

I've seen plenty of guys with high ranks that still don't know what they're doing. Not sure how the ranking works but it doesn't distinguish good players from bad players.

Man, I think we have said that 1000 times !!!

If you had read the Help, you'll know that his purpose is to know how experienced is the player.

I know this. But others think that the rank will tell you something about who you are going up against.

I'm pretty sure they work on sheer number of games played... hence the system is highly abusable at the moment, for the life of me I can't figure out why I'm rank 4... I should be at most at rank 3 IMHO.

well this system does encourges newbies to play longer, so they get a higher rank, which might cause them to get really addicted to TAspring, which is good. And when they get better they realise that the rankings don't mean that much.

PS
I was just brain storming here :)

Keep in mind that, in the early days of the ranking system, we were allowed to change our rank, if we thought it should be higher, and i saw loads of newbies (i mean real newbies) trying to set they're rank to the maximum 5 and, after realising they couldn't, changing it to the maximum allowed of 3.

Looking back, it may have been a mistake to allow that.
Still, i too thought that that would not hapen...
