Ok, enough Blender talk. I posted the link to the paper because of the good approach in analysing why something is bad, and where it can be improved. If you refuse to stand still and spend some time thinking why something doesn't work, and how it can be improved, then don't be surprised the end result is not exactly what you wanted it to be.

It's not about blender! It's about the approach when improving an element. I'm pretty sure half of you haven't even opened up the PDF and read it through from start to finish.

You are wasting your time on this. But it's your time so have fun.

That was not constructive.

All of the big general-purpose 3D modelling/animation apps have nightmarishly complex GUIs. Blender's unconventional approach only makes it marginally worse.
The paper is for the new 'pretty' gui in development.

It's never a waste of time to read papers, especially not if they cover the failures of others.

If the new 'pretty gui' just changes what this paper covers, it's not more than a small rearranging. And perhaps as V1ntage said, we should stop talking about Blender, instead i just meant that this paper covers the wrong problem level of Blender - it's not that Blender's GUI is hard to use cause of too much freepixels in the panels, instead it's rather the opposite - and so it's not as useful as other GUI design papers.

Thanks for your input jK. I'd love to see other papers as well if you happen to have any links. The more the merrier. :-)
