Re: Mod Developers should not be Lobby moderators. Ever.

I will admit that my moderation responsibilities have forced me to suspend my work for a few of the offerings on the engine.

It is good for Spring! The more servers running Spring the more popular it becomes.FLOZi wrote: The question is; is it good for Spring for all mods to branch off into their own servers for that purpose?
No. No it is not.
I second this. I expect my moderator powers because I make Evolution RTS, host springinfo, host a file mirror, host the only UF mirror in existence, host mods and maps, and I also host official spring installer mirror.Noruas wrote:I am mod developer, please give me the keys to drive the lobby car.
Oh, you noticed that?Forboding Angel wrote:spring installer mirror
I think this speaks for itself.Licho wrote:There could also be "day of the mod X" once per month - when all non mod X games are closed or limited to just 1 autohost.
But i think people would just find it annoying they cannot play BA DSD.
But I would like "day of mod X" just to try all different mods there are properly..

Exactly, the line you draw is way too arbitrary. I can even push it further than Meltrax and suggest only people who never heard of Spring should be devs. That's pure impartiality.MelTraX wrote:Why the hell not? Then engine devs shouldn't be, map makers, widget devs, ... Players probably not aswell..
Each of them can kick people if they don't like his work/gameplay. Of course no moderator should do that.
Hahahah seriously want Licho to be responsible for moderation?Gota wrote:All complaints should go to whoever is one responsible for the server.
This person has the final authority over moderation.
If something is wrong he is the one that says the final word.
He IS responsible for moderation if he is the server admin.Regret wrote:Hahahah seriously want Licho to be responsible for moderation?Gota wrote:All complaints should go to whoever is one responsible for the server.

Wrong. He is responsible for keeping the server running, not for moral decisions.Gota wrote:He IS responsible for moderation if he is the server admin.

Providing hosting doesn't give you some higher value over others.

Not the same.Regret wrote:value
He hosts the server. This fact does not in any way make him a candidate or a responsible moderator. I stand by the point that he is not responsible for the moderation or its staff. The community does not belong to him because he volunteered to host the server.CarRepairer wrote:The host is a moderator. He has ultimate powers. You are saying that someone should not be a moderator because they are hosting the site. But the "should" is not what's reality. As long as he has the ability to moderate, he's a moderator. I'm just being technical on the definition (just like others were before me). He can choose not to exercise that power, but he has that power. Just like any moderator who chooses not to do anything.Regret wrote:He hosts the server. This fact does not in any way make him a candidate or a responsible moderator.
