The thing is there are already internet standards, which most people are happy sticking to. What MS does is implement those standards and then adds their own extensions on which do whizzy things that their marketing people say customers want. That wouldn't be too much of a problem except that MS then makes its own extensions to the standards the default way of doing things (even for things that don't have to be done their non-standard way e.g. ActiveX). That way they can sell their products as standards compliant, meanwhile locking you in to their products because if you switch over to a genuine standards compliant tool you find that the MS specific stuff doesn't work any more.FizWizz wrote: I am NOT defending Microsoft here, but maybe Microsoft has created some kind of standardization here with its monopolization.
