In my experience, other peoples' grandmas are heading into a protectionist movement, I doubt he could possibly be working for more than his own 2 grandmas.

Only half-true. The important part is that he claimed he could've made money in that time and that, when pressed, he claimed his occupation was "freelancer".

In other words, he's unemployed, playing video games in his mom's basement, and got angry about time being wasted.
