Well that was fun :) I really don't care about how you spell things, I just get pissed about people trying to push language superiority when it is pretty well known that both american and UK english are somewhat different, so in closing my giant run on sentence I really just thought it was funny that YET again someone from the uk is acting really asinine about the language.

Yeah modeling is the common spelling but I use a mix of both english languages anyways. For example I say pro-cessor instead of prah-cessor which is a bit odd for an american.

All in all I was a bit annoyed that anyone really cared how modeler was spelled and was even more annoyed that af had to come in and act like his way is the right way.

As far as the an vs a thing, I thought so to but apparently an can be used in front of vowel sounding words so... AN can be used infront of an ayech sound.

I've never heard anyone using an before a 'h-' word. Must be a regional thing ('cept for 'silent h' cases, ie 'an honest gentleman').

Personally, modeling always looks weird to me. I pronounce it 'model-ling' and automatically think it's meant to be spelt that way.

To be perfectly honest, it's not like the world is going to end over it.

We use an because it flows better, hence why an apple, and in cases where the emphasis is not an a H the word 'an' is used. The an before h isn't really a rule itself, its just that an is used instead of a to make the sentence flow better when read out loud or it just sounds strange. The same applies to any other word where the first letter is a silent consonant or the first syllable has a vowel like sound

No, he's specifically talking about non-silent Hs, and I've never seen that done.

Considering there are more americans than english people it would be expected that modeling would give more hits than modelling on a search engine.

And most people online who speak English tend to learn american words.

Even ive started typing color instead of colour and center instead of centre out of bad habbit.

the key word there is 'English', because that is the origin and name of the language. The american 'version' just has distorted spelling and more Z's in place of S' because most colonists were illiterate peasants and kept writing their S' the wrong way round

The language Americans write in is actually 'Standard Edited American English,' as it is a standard convention for a written language based off of English and used most commonly in the United States of America and the American continent. It is not 'US English.' Never mind all the effort 'literate and un-peasant-like' people like Noah Webster put into the American variant.

Also, your argument is much like saying we should go back to using Xerox Windows or Unix, as the evolved form of our operating systems were all created by 'illiterate' amateurs or fledgling companies.

Not that I have anything against using British English for our forum conventions, just gently suggesting that you do your research and prepare a stronger argument next time.

I was at church and talking with some people and somone said "Dude" and then some language nazi said "YOu know a dude is a blister on a horse" and I was all like "Yeah, languages evolve"........ ZinG!!!

oddly enough, in that company, I won the verbal exchange with my pathetic attempt at humor (though, having not been the one who originally said Dude I was at an advantage)...

I later asked if that means that calling something a "Dude Ranch" is a joke on their guests...

Anyway, yeah, I live in Canada, but grew up with computers and then the internet so I have adopted a few americanisms because, as you may have noticed... there may be a large number of english speaking countries on the planet who spell right but the ones from the US tend to talk the most and loudest.
