Any copyrightable for-Spring code has to be gpl-compatible, not simple gpl, not whatever. Use precise language and don't involve emotion. I'm glad we could have this discussion. Thank you and good day.

Oh really?

Once upon a time, Fang used some of Argh's bos code, which was GPL, and a dramatic shitstorm ensued.

lurker was correct, GPL compatible code, and if I am not mistaken, its worth to check out what is really compatible with GPL.

As of shitstorm, it really depends on the author, how he used it, how he replied to the complaint (read - ignored) etc. I am not advocating this here, I am just saying that it is totally possible, and there is squat that an author can do against such a "violation" of his license. On the other hand I would recommend to at least make derivative work, not directly copy-paste the code.

/quits this thread to try to prevent future flamewar.

Evo is CC-by-ND-NC

TBH this license was only adopted to protect our models and textures. I have already stated very loudly and publicly on this forum that since I as the copyright holder have the ability to waive certain conditions, I am.

Here is what I wrote in the other thread about this:

The actual license is available here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by- ... /legalcode

Now before we have any uproar about the ND portion I want to very publicly state that the only thing we are concerned about protecting is models, textures for said models, and artwork.

Specifically this applies to the following directories within the game structure:

bitmaps/loadpictures
objects3d
unittextures

I can waive the above conditions as I see fit (we don't intend on restricting official forks, it's just that we want to know about them and approve of them which isn't unreasonable). Therefore to avoid any fallout or misunderstanding...

In writing, I am officially and publicly stating that:

You are welcome (and even encouraged) to use, modify, distribute any of the files NOT found within these directories within the game file (including svn):

bitmaps\loadpictures
objects3d
unittextures

Any files not found in the above directories is fair game and you may do what you wish with those files

Sorry about the loud text, I just wanted to make sure that our intentions are very clearly understood. As always, you may contact me directly via pm for other written documentation. I was requested for a license change by several members of the team in order to protect their work and have complied accordingly.

Even though this sounds restrictive, that doesn't mean that we intend to be ultra restrictive with it, it's just for our protection. Don't be afraid to ask if permission for certain items can be granted. :-)

Hi all,
yes it┬┤s me about one year after my initial Post...I have been in hospital for a quite a long time and I am so sorry that I was not able to answer and then five months after my post I forgot, that I posted something here.

Okay, what I was and what I am still looking for are Graphics which can be used for another project apart from Spring.
Certainly it is possible to place copyright-information who is rights owner and so on but it seems to be very very difficult to differentiate between allowed and not allowed for this usage.

So is here anybody who is able to answer the question if there are unit and screen fotos which can be reused?

Many thanks,
Saunameister

if you are looking for that, do not ask whether the project is Open Source or not (because models + artwork is NOT included into GPL), you should instead go over to the model base (I hope I got name right) thread, and check the appropriate licenses there. You are looking for CC without ND in it. Or if you plan to sell stuff, you also want to exclude NC.
