I must say that i think the native spring sky looks better than that pixelated one although I might be a bit biased :)

Sky boxes should only be used if you want something not cloudy

Like stars, or acid trips.

The native spring sky could be used too if you make it translucent. Dark clouds with some stars shining through, it'd be nice :)

The problem with that particular skybox was the source images where only 128 x 128 I resized them to 1024 x 1024 and blurred the images to mask the pixellation, if however you start with good resolution rendered clouds or images of a real sky the result would be spectacular.

Ok, this is probablie just me... but i cant see the sky in mine! I know its loading the skybox due to a lack of clouds and the fact its reflected onto the sea, however when you look up everything is purple (due to purple fog) or blue (when i removed the fog tag and i assume it defalted to blue)
What the hell Have I done rong??

Same problem occured with me when I tried to play the Core Prime map. Only the sky was pure, blinding white. It was very painful to the eyes, and I had to keep the camera towards the ground the whole time. It could just be my graphics card, as it is pretty old (GeForce4 MX 440), and doesnt support half of the spring eye candy.

Triple check all your settings... Make sure its an OpenGL not D3D, a skybox (not just a cubemap), and also that you are outputting DXT1 textures (IIRC).
I had similar behavior when one of the above was not done whilest playing with skyboxes
