My guess is that ruhtraeel doesn't know that Spring is already moddable. In case he will read his own thread:
The Game Editor to change how fast the unit walks, fires, the range of the weapon, damage, etc... is called Notepad.
Ok, more specifically: /mods/*.sdz can be opened with WinZip, WinRar, 7-zip, and even bare WindowsXP, as they are just renamed zip files. (Might have to tick that option to see files suffix in your files explorer).
/mods/*.sd7 can be opened by
7-zip (which is just like WinZip but free and better), for they are just renamed 7z files.
Once you have unzipped the mod:
- To change how fast an unit walk, open the file /units/unitname.fbi with ANY text editor.
- To change how fast the unit fire, the range of weapon, damage, etx.., open the file /units/weaponame.tdf with ANY text editor.
- I suggest editing the file modinfo.tdf to give another name to the mod.
- You then can either rezipe the folder or rename it to whatever.sdd

It's been done, several times, already. And Natural Selection 2.1 do was the best game of all time*, in my opinion!
Yet NS itself is merely a clone of Tremulous. And also have a look at Savage Battle for Newerth, and well I forgot what the others were.
