Spring RTS Engine

i got a version that has about triple the pieces the basic trial has but not as much as the complete editor (waiting to be able to download complete)

so its a hacked trial basically :p

Well I pre-ordered spore in 2006, so Im just glad theyve finally got something to show for it.

The last guy got it right, the game will inevitably become a universe of sentient genitalia.

I must say im disappointed. I had the illusion that this game was about evolution. But it seems to be just another RPG.

Basicly you make a playermodel as you see fit. A one legged trashcan with no eyes and huge spiky balls can move just a quickly as my selfmade jaguar. The placement of body parts is totally unimportant. Whether you add a spike to the creatures arms, or its ass. It doesnt matter. It will allways make the same attack move. Your creature gains +1 attack from the spike. So this really is a RPG where you make a nice outfit for your character and then level him up and spend attribute points.

I hope the game will be better.

well, the creature editor is what the name says it is - mr potato on steroids. nothing less, nothing more.

Every time i hear a release has been postponed, i punch the air in triumph. I know the developers have fought tooth and nail with the vicious greedy bastard 'done by christmas' publishing companies to be able to finish their damn game... and EA is one of the worst for releasing unfinished products.

But its Will God Damn Wright, and even EA knows that.

Of course, there is your Duke Nukem Forever and your Daikatana, but there is also your Team Fortress 2, and almost everything produced by Blizzard.

Spore probably wont be the best arcade game, the best RPG, the best RTS, the best Civ clone. But you dont need that for it to be fun, just as a tool or sandbox or toy to allow the expression of creativity, it is breathtaking. Add that to things like user-driven and procedurally generated content, ideas that are well overdue and deserve their time (See Dwarf Fortress!) and you are going to have something that is going to be interesting and fun, even if the individual gameplay elements are simplistic or flawed.

BTW they really are working on Duke Nukem Forever, in case you didn't know... like, they just made a teaser for it. A homoerotic teaser, yes, but a teaser nonetheless.

This is true. I occasionally visit another forum (not game related), which one of the developers frequents. Apparently it's under quite active development.

i agree with Saktoth, it was a program made to express your creativity by making creatures that interact with each other; not a place to make alien genitalia. only sickos and perverts would do such things. why pollute the game with such dirty "humor"? just because you're bored doesnt mean you can ruin a harmless game for 9 year olds.

This is a very popular game, so I doubt that only 9 year olds will be playing it, thus the existence of penis creatures.

If that's the case, then it's the 9-year-olds that are "ruining" the game, but, being that I'm female and didn't own a computer at the age of 9, I was not making or thinking of any such thing as trying to make something like that then and I don't think that most 9 year olds, male or female, would either even if they thought it was funny.

I cant beleive they didnt see it coming- there should be a popup that comes up to inform you your creature is too phalic. penis recognition software!
