http://www.darkstars.co.uk/downloads/vi ... _BLOOM.lua
there you go, better?
edit : to edit yourself add .txt to the widget and open with standard windows thing, in one of the first lines youll see blur and bloom amount, try tweaking them, blur needs to be really close to 1.0 and id use amount oif bloom 0.8-1.4, try to balance them

Reason is some mappers here */me glares* don't understand how to control the sun (regardless of the fact that I have tried and tried to explain it

).
The majority of my later maps look great, some of the earlier ones when I was first starting out don't look so hot.
It is most definately the mappers fault. Not the shader's fault.

It seems that the quickest way to reduce overbloom is to increase illumThreshold. If the comments are correct, the default turns everything that is at least 50% bright into a glow source O.o.

false, its perfect at 0.5 if you make it like 0.55 your 'bloom' will switch bloomed-not bloomed every few secs

But then you get almost no bloom on maps whose creators actually knew what they were doing with sun settings.
hmmm if only there were a way to override the smd with a mod. All it would take is a few lines, you wouldn't need to change the direction or anything...

Actually, that's really not a bad idea. Too bad it can't be done automagically tho :-/
The default seems to look great on all of my maps that I could think of, except the really really old ones (It took me some time before I understood how the sun worked too). Damn shame that it's tough to change that many smd's.

You should post some teasing pics of bloom on your maps.

Actually, that would make for a good map effect, a scorched planet in orbit of a highly active sun. or even a planet thats undergone a major readioactive disaster that stripped off its protective upper layers of atmosphere..

if we could query the map lighting with lua, we could make bloom adjust to the map..

We already have this problem without bloom on some of these maps as you can see if you turn on reflections.
One map that springs to mind is sunken outpost. I would say mappers should be more observant of lighting.

We also have a huge issue with latest drivers for the 8000 series, if you update it, it just goes pitch black.
