Well I├óÔé¼Ôäóm pretty sure that there is less inherent racism left in the world, and it is much less obvious. When compared to the Dark Age├óÔé¼Ôäós, middle age's... most of the 18th century... the 16th-17th century and so on, we are much nicer!

Then again i have always been an optimist, because I think that if life is never going to get any better, why bother living. As of yet no pessimists or cynics i have ever asked that question have given a satisfactory answer, and instead just mumbled something incoherent and changed the subject.

kinda as in something i'll be later in life, im pretty certain theres a god out there somewhere but getting pissed is too much too pay for eternal happiness, ill confess later and be saved eternally as well as having good memories :) anyways if i die before then i'll say that i planned to convert, just never had time. who can argue with that? and if god knows all he'll know that i was going too! :) plan eh? :D besides

People take religion literally these days, they dotn realise that what the bible or the koran says was never meant to eb literally true, just a metaphor for the truth. Even the very concept of god can be redefined to soemthign most bishops would term as heresy while still fitting witht he teachings of the bible, and actually being more logical and realistic to believe, the sort of belief that doesnt really need faith because you just know it.

God did write the bible, the hebrews did, man did, thus it is biased towards there perspective of things. Also, all religions in the mediterranean where absed ont he idea of the mysteries, you would ahve the outer mysteries, such as parables and stories, not so dissimilar to what the bible is like, then you would be initiated into the inner mysteries where you would be told the meaning behidn the story, the truth, the knowledge that it held. A good example fo thsi int he bible is that of the samaritan. It's unlikely to have happened exactly as it said rather as an example, and we all know it ahs an udnerlying meaning, a purpose.

Christianity after Jesus' death was like this, inner and outer. Although certain saints where more inclined towards the roman version of chritianity, aka catholicism. Thus catholocism endorsed byt he roman empire labelled all else as hereticala nd eliminated them. Churches such as the gnostics, they where the ones who banned a number of books form the bible and gave us the new testament.

Also note several very suspiscious times when the king of judea suddenly found a new book fo the old testament that was lost, that just seemed to give him the tools he needed to dow hat he wanted, for example strengthen the populous for war against assyria......

Wether the bible is the word of god or not, it is not literal as it has been written by men, and then translated by men and reritten for a new era (eg latin to old english to modern english)

I think belving helps a great deal of pepole to. Even if the helping hand isent there, i think it makes you feel safe... And serching the answears in the bible removes the need to worry so much. When one of your relatives die, you know they are in a bette place...

Ofcourse there is a bad side to it to. Some pepole who belive waste their lifes in a moanstry, not doing much fun and never being totaly free. When they lay on their death bed they may suddenly realise that the hand who was suposed to help them never was there...
And offcourse the radical ones that misintupentate the words of ''god'' and go all crazy.

But i think faith can be really helpfull... Even if it's ''god'' isent there there.

I don't think that telling a person to commit suicide is the right thing to do. These people give chritianity and religion as a whole a bad name.

Another thing that gives religion a bad name are people who claim to be christian but who apparently know little to nothing of what that implies.

Do any christians here ever wonder about how there are a hundred different factions of christianity, all claiming that the other is wrong and they are right? You can go to one church, walk across the street, and get told something completely different.

Then, all these "christians" on one side of a line declare war on the other side of a line, killing thousands of their fellows. And the priests on both sides tell the people that God is on their side of this righteous crusade against evil.

THEN, the bodies start coming home and their relatives ask God: why did you let this happen?

Well Caydr, you yourself just became an example of someone who doesnt know all the facts and makes a fool of themselfs because of it. I do hate religious fundamentalists, and i agree that they do put a bad face on religion. And how does Munch not know much about religion? Didn't seem like that to me.

While I agree that some of the things done in the 'Name Of God and All Things Good' could almost be said to be the work of 'The Devil' (go figure), Religion has got some very good things going for it. Even if its just the bits saying 'Be good and dont kill each other', then thats something good about religion.

You cant just totally dismiss all religion and everyone that belives as idiots. I am good friends with the Minister and his family at my church, and they are really cool people. I think that they hate the religious fundamentalists and other psychos as much as everyone
