Well my point still stands as I don't see anything speaking against what I said. But maybe we should discuss this elsewhere...

I was thinking more like the Submarine in the movie RED OCTOBER, where it uses an internal Impeller for propulsion instead of an external propeller to drive it.

Its basically a jet engine, but for water, just trying to be creative with how the tank works, because I really have my doubts about a heavy piece of steel crawling along the bottom of soft lakebed and sand and not just getting stuck and sinking into the floor.

thats probably why its so freaking slow.

Hehe no longer 8)

I'll just have to think of something similar when I do the Triton, but most importantly you gotta look beyond BA and how everything works in it.

well why not go all the way and make it look like a piece of floating wood when in water :-

also! aha! you just said you were doing an arm unit!

an internal impeller is not like a jet engine.
Unles you mean a turbofan like on a modern airliner.

Jet = Air goes in, gets compressed, gas is mixed with the compressed air, and its ignited and funneled = thrust.

Water jet = Water gets sucked in by internal propeller(impeller), gets pressurized or at least moved at a high rate, exhausts out rear = thrust.

Fundamentally its very similar, just different ways of moving something from the front to the rear quickly enough to push the vehicle along.

I don't really want to get into technical details, because I'm no engineer and havn't the first clue about it, it was just an idea and it seemed sound enough for a video game.

Fucking make it hydrofoil. I'd like my tanks to zoom up onto beaches at 450mph.

Fucking Yes! However, this may slightly upset game balance.

How does a model affect game balance?

I could make it twice as fast in water by script but that doesn't mean the TA mods (read: CA) will keep it.

hmmm

a tank thats a hydrofoil, and goes faster while on water would be sweet

It would be more like a boat with tracks, wouldn't it? Better in water than out. Call it the "Duck" or something.

EDIT: More on topic: I actually like the impellers- if anything, I would make them even more dramatic a part of the model. Bubbles bubbling out of the back ports is a must, it will look really cool!

'jet ski's' are called so because they are propelled by a 'jet' of water. That is the water jet. the term does not describe the mechanism, just the effect.

That is why it is different.

but, semantics aside, nice model. yet again.

I have this incredibly awesome vision in my mind of the ability of these tanks to float to the surface. Since they have impellers, they could move around the surface of the water. Imagine a fleet of ships made by some dumbass noob with no submarine cover. You drive in your tanks under the water, and click the on/off button. They slowly float to the surface. Then, all hell breaks loose as the ships become confused at why there are floating tanks all around them and decide to commit suicide.

trib, part of the point of underwater movement is that it gives the unit cover for it's approach. By putting it on the surface you make it vulnerable to aircraft etc. Also there are already vehicles for that, they are called hovercraft. also underwater tanks can attack ships.

Well... not unless they give them the means.

I have to say that would be a pretty awesome idea, but hardly from a balanced gameplay standpoint.

A submersible, Hovercraft + amphibious tank..
Jesus... that would be the single most bitched about unit ever :D

Problem is, with the way the water jets work on the tank, it would have to maintain constant forward speed to ascend to the water's top and stay there.

Well just turn those strange cylindric things the Croc has on its top into vertical impeller engines and it's done...

Although imo this idea isn't good for a TA mod as it would make hovers obsolete...

Heh, who needs T2 hovers when you have an incredibly OP croc?
