Ca isn't I'll give u that but its not really your say if people advertise it but if u wanna keep complaining be my guest.One of the only things i like about ca is the p2p map and mod system thats all conveniently at one area. Just FYI you can get all mods with the updater

Its the second most popular mod in spring. If you allow people to advertise where to get other mods, then you should allow them to advertise where to get CA. There is NO OTHER WAY to get CA than through that link. This is why we spam main. Otherwise people wouldnt have any idea how to get CA.

Perhaps it should be ammended to mention that it gives peer to peer map and mod sharing, and also lets you download CA. But seriously, if they dont have the caspring link in their face, people will be going 'So how do i get this mod?!'. There are no other links to the caspring site.

Regarding modlink in #main - people were still asking for the modlink.

Because CA is on NONE of these sites (they only allow sdz/sd7 in mods) and there were many people asking each day, I decided to add that to topic along with link to basecontent.

Raging at the CA people for trying to unseat BA is pretty much a lost cause, MDmakaan. While I think that spamming #main is gauche, it's about the only real solution they have, given that we don't have any effective means to advertise otherwise (heh, had to bring that up again, didn't I...).

I really dont see a problem with people advertising a mod in #main, 99.9% of the conversations in the channel are spam and even they are hard to follow in the midst of all the join/leave spam.

If you want to have an actual conversation about something, do it via pm or just /j #arandomchannelijustmadeup and do it there

Seriously what possible justification is there for stopping people providing access to their free game/conent distribution software, beyond fanboyism or jealousy of their success?

A bigger problem imo is linking to the OTA content in the #main topic, which is an explicit breach of copyright (as opposed to an indirectly inferred one )

How about a rolling ticker at the top of the lobby screen that cycles through community messages? Then you don't need all this spam in the main chat channel, and you can ensure that mods get equal exposure.

You can also do things with that such as giving some tickers permanent cycling (such as a modlink), so that they never stop cycling, and others, such as 'new map released' limited cycling (say, a week). You could further control things using weightings, which determines how often a particular ticker appears, so say, a CA or BA link appears regularly, but a map release, or news about a new update, or even say, 'SWS featured in PCGamer' appear less often.

I don't have any problem with any mod advertising in #main, I just don't think they should get a link in the topic, because we haven't allowed that for others in the past.

I demand ad for BA and DSD in the #main topic.

Difference is, that BA can be obtained on any of sites listed above, but CA has unique method of getting the mod.

I added it after being asked 3x during one hour "where to get CA" by newbies who were unable to find it on the sites.

I don't see why you can't distribute something on those sites also.

Im also sick of that CA spamming.

I suggest CA downloader will be separated into a different program which isnt made just for CA, so it would be just plain mod/map downloader without advertising CA at all.

And i suggest we mute licho next time he spams it.
