It's not JC's fault that ati has awful ogl support

Well as this is about a shader it's probably going to be about HLSL / Cg or whatever you use and which techniques are NVIDIA only...

Yeah, FAIL in huge capital letters instead of reflections. :P

For now you're stuck with reflective or refractive. This is probably th 10th thread about the broken shaders... yes shaders, refractive needs a fix too.

Quote form svnlog:

5544 / kloot 17 hours fix? the dynamic water renderer for 8x00-series GPU's

-> i just compiled the new source, at least on my system (xp64, 8800 gts 512 (the one with the new g92 chipset) the water renderer is still broken :( Can anyone else check if it works with other 8880 cards now?

Sub: I didn't modify Spring itself, you only need to place a new
version of springcontent.sdz in the base/ dir of your SVN build.
Dynamic water now definitely works for the (G80) GTS and the
GT (verified on Linux with driver rev. 169.09), but the fix should
also extend to the new G92 GTS and GTX.

It doesn't work for me either on 8800 GTS with Gutsy 64bit and nvidia driver 100.14.19. I can't go any higher in driver version until they fix this bug: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpos ... ostcount=1

I made sure that the svn spring folder had the latest springcontent.sdz in it.

Works for me now that I rooted out all copies of dwgroundrefract.vp and updated them. In fact, you don't need to wait until the next release for this bugfix, just make a folder "shaders" in your spring directory with the attached file (change extension to .vp from .txt).

On a related note. I wish someone could fix refractive water so that you can see submerged units on 8 series cards: http://spring.clan-sy.com/mantis/view.php?id=650

spring desperatly needs a facelift.
I remember someone saying 2 most important things spring needs are better support for newer hardware and a new lobby.
I agree.

Oh and i also have a 8 series card and it causes spring to generate those lines as well.I tested it with a few different drivers...

Maybe both of you could bother to read the explanation of how to get working dynamic water with the current version of spring I wrote a few posts up. ;)

Yeah, but it's not as bad with dynamic than the other water shaders.

Refractive also refuses to activate under certain conditions. I think when the edge of the map was in the view it fails with an error message.

Actually it activated once when I was looking at the southern border, but failed for every other attempt.

Code: Select all

/water 3
Set ReflectiveWater to 3
Loading Refractive Water failed
Error: Error at position -1 near "!!ARBfp1.0
