gah why turn this into a dickwaving contest. Our community is small enough that people have reputations anyway, you dont have to press a -1 button to vote that someone is an asshole, just remember it.

... but that doesn't tell moderators who's being a dick recently. A system like this would make it pretty clear. Moreover, it'd mean that being a massive dick, and griefing everywhere, would just earn you a ban. I don't think that's "dickwaving". I think that's communal justice. Anyhow, that's just my $0.02 on this matter.

i wonder why you could see only the negative sides. i really doubt you could come up with anything meaningful or useful other than bitching around.
yes, "reputation" would surely be exploited and misunderstood. that's no doubt. any measure that could bring interest to the individuals would ultimately be a root of all the evil.
money lead to many crimes, according to your logic, you should definitely throw it into the garbage.
it's not the money or reputation's problem, it's the people who tries to earn them using inappropriate means.
Some creative mods couldn't receives wider recognition among ppls is a problem that has been around for a quite while. yes, i said
third, maps or mods that played more often, would lead to reward to the creators.
but you could simply suggest "it's not good enough, i would like a rule favors originality over popularity". instead of so much useless crap.
chanserv already does this, and moderators are there for a purpose, no need to have a honour system zZz
i do not even have a ounce of will to replace any of these remarkable efforts that been made. but consider this as a supplement. maybe i would be a too much fagot, besides some annoying spamming, i don't like some juvenile comments or strange links that frequently appears in the screen, and i don't like to spend meaningless time to filter the noise using some explicit blacklists, i would trust someone else's judgment and automatically filter these for me, or likewise.

go back to your polis and make a speech in the town centre about the filosophical points of life and morales.
that's a joke of yourself. at least you could spend five more minutes in seriously reading other people's words before your nagging about something i'd suggest for.
I would stress this again:
it's not a law.
it's not a popularity contest.
it's not anything that restrict the current freedom that you enjoy.
it's a way of collective efforts to make inappropriate behaviors less annoying than currently now.

Lets have a popularity contest! We could have sub-categories like biggest drama queen!
i like your ideas of putting more measures of reputation other than a single one, but hates the ideas of popularity contest.

i values my brain. i don't think it should take extra efforts to remember any asshole no matter in the game or in the real life.
i know your concern people would be annoyed. but who will be annoyed anyway? people who are serious players would only be encouraged by new systems.
and it dosen't need to be explicit as the current rank system does. it could be distributed across the ppls. i like Dragon45 and Argh's ideas.

unless they just renames their accounts every two weeks.
a new reputation system could possibly shine a new light over the smurfing issue.
i reckon smurfing as a cheap way of achieve some anonymousness. it gave ppls freedom to have multiple persona.
"reputation" systems could have flexible rule systems, it could lead ppls to express their emotions in a more constructive way. for example, if so called EVIL ppls could have their own evaluating standards, maybe we could encourage some healthy pranks like Harvard students do.

theyre not going to do it, its your idea, and its up to you to do it, others can help you on the way though, but not do work just because you want them to.
first, i believe in all the programmers hardly working for Spring project with the ability of making judicious judgment. i don't think they will do just exactly whatever i says.
and all i did is just getting some discussion while at the same time trying to make my points as more accessible as it could be.
if you don't like my ideas, that's okay, but it's only your opinion. Still any criticism to the ideas are welcome.

A. We're never ever going to display a user voted popularity ranking. It's so massively abusable it's laughable. Get over it.
B. It's not possible to evaluate player ethical performance by mathematical function. Ethics are situational, so the altorithm would just break every time someone did something outside of the programmed ideal situation.
C. Both systems, even when working properly, create more work for moderators.

Sleska's insensitivity for anyone and anything really bothers me. We should have reputations that are moderator controlled. That way, since the moderators let Sleska break forum rules, they could easily rep him down to make up for the fact that he is not banned. Also, nice helpful people, or people who are just awesome (forb, smoth, arg, agorm to name just a FEW Dont get mad at me if I did not mention you) could get repped up by mods. Since mods are made mods due to their maturity to handle power thoughtfully and carefully, they should be in charge of rep. Separately (or maybe not separately), rank should be determined by ladder matches and such.

i admit i choose a bad subject title and too hurry to put on some ideas without consideration.
but the motivation is still there, if not punishing, at least we should consider ways of giving rewards to show our value.
it's all about humanity. people wouldn't listen until they see a difference between good and bad behaviors.

On one forum that had a karma system I often times had 1 or 2 points above my negative score, I was the most voted person with the lowest overall score! It was amazing.
