Gundam is derivative of the Gundam anime correct?

(I don't want to derail this too far, I just want to see if you think so)

Well i thought about this and here is what i think. First we all know TA models sux. We all know that that no one here has the time to redo all the units ├óÔé¼ÔÇ£ or some one would have found the time. So being a meta programmer (with programmer's art) i think we should make a lego set. This TA-ish lego set will have different parts that would be used in many many units. Don't redo both the core and the arm just redo one side. This set of parts should be much less then the number of models it will make. It would make units some what blend all looking the same (hey but isn't that the goal.)

I don't think its feasible to remake all he ~ 406 units of the say the BA mod. But making ~100 parts and assembling them into 203 (one side only) should be doable. It would look ugly, it would look boring but it should be done fast not to loose momentum. Then after that set is remade we can start on the core part set again a possible task. Then after the core part is redone (would be a little better we will learn some skill) we can remake the arm set again this one would be easier because we just remake the parts not the animations. And keep flipping back and forth making a better and better part sets.

I already started ... this is my coder art: and the point of these parts is not to wow any one just to put in a pipeline a temp parts of a sort:

Next I don't know how doable is this. But i want to some how jerry rig my temp parts onto the 3do's model hierarchy automatically. Figuring out whats is a leg, gun, foot or wheel might be hard but remember they do have names and shapes I could try to fuzzy match to my temp parts. Then export the entire thing as s3o's. Using automation is the key step in my plan because i dont plan on any one else to help me ... i cant - you guys are just as lazy as i am.

AF, what about EE? What about FF? What about nanoblobs (ok not nanoblobs)? Kernel Panic? NO one plays other mods because we want our pyro, sumos, and flash rushes. Maybe we want the original look too. Maybe if we remade all the models perfectly every one would still play with old ones because of nostalgia?

Yep. Smoth mentions that quite often. Using something as a concept makes the result derivative (unless you differ significantly from the concept which makes using the concept at all kinda silly).

There is something about TA that is particularly attractive. EE is my favorite mod, or so I thought, until I realized that even as a professed CA fan my favorite mod is BA. Its not just the spam, its the game itself.

If you want to work on a re-design of TA units that will actually end up being used in an actual mod, CA is intending to assemble a team to replace all the TA-IP content with entirely new models, new factions, new storylines, etc.

While this is a longterm goal, it is a goal. Its early days yet and the basis for our art will probably not be the PSG stuff (as its using a lot of new units that we wont be and is actually all just as copyrighted as the ATARI stuff, only ATARI doesnt know about us and this guy does).

Its in concept stage ATM, so we're looking for faction concepts, concept artists, etc to work with us. Groundwork stuff so we have enough material that we are all one the same page when we get down to the modelling.

So if you want to do this, and get it in a game, CA is very open to the idea.

Haw haw haw, I will unite the community under my banner of horrendous, infuriating overdetail.

My point is that to redo a mod that has this many units one must some how redo it automaticlay and this is what i was looking into.

There is no way to do it automatically. Every single model needs to be remodelled by hand.

If there was a way to model stuff like this automatically, games and mods would progress much faster.

Your concept would be really great for a new game, but TA units didn't really have recycled bits.

Besides, there are already 2 mods which aim to reproduce TA in Supcom.
One seeks to transplant TAin all its original glory to Supcom using the original models and textures.

The other seeks to recreate TA in the image of Supcom, with completely new models that are higher poly and more detailed. *edited to correct link, thanks hrmph*
