I get 50 fps with everything maxed (except grass because it's irritating), 8800gts, in the latest svn version.

Why? That's very nearly a downgrade...

How so ? do u mean in regards to spring? or in general. because the new 8800GT has almost the same performance as a GTX , but its $200 au cheaper.

For spring.

I'm sure it won't take long for spring to get sorted for the 8 series though, and when it does people then already have a better card, not speaking for myself though, i stuck with 7 series :)

Well, the 7x00 series cards was an EXTREAMLY solid card series... and while 8x00 series cards are strictly speaking capable of more, they tend to come with more problems and disappointments as well. In getting value for your money I would still recommend 7x00 series cards.

For spring -> uh all of them? The 8 series apparently runs badly in spring.

I'm talking about overall gaming, not just spring.

its a pity.. mm ill probably build a gaming (read: crysis and CoD4) and then a spring computer.. so i can have the best of both worlds..
Gaming :
Q6600
4 gb RAM
8800 GTS 512 (or maybe a GT.. or maybe a GTX.. ill see when i get it (late January)
Spring
core 2 duo
2 gb
7800GTX

Or, do like I did a long time ago when you need the best of two cards, swap them out every time you want to play something different :D

7900gs = 8600gts

Literally, or preformance wise?
If the latter, I'll kindly point out that different cards preform differently on different hardware, and while the card probably makes HL2 and crisis really nice, that says absolutely nothing about it's total performance quality as a card for basic rendering functions. New cards, while they chew through shaders like no tomorrow, seriously suffer if forced to crunch massive polycount's or massive sprite behaviors.

I'm trying to decide on a 7600gt or 8800gt, its a difference of about 200 dollars to put elsewhere in my system.
Will i be able to run games other than spring on decent settings with the 7600?

Is the 7600GS any good for Oblivion? I don't have to run it at max graphics or high resolution.
