well, BA has to be in since every noob plays BA on greenfields or smetal or delta.
XTA should be there as an alternate
CA is too unstable atm to be worth including
EE would be cool though thats half completed as well atm
SWS is dated and imba, i wouldnt have included it unless the new version comes out before the next spring
same with s44

Fiber is in this forum, KDR made it. Epic Legions is a Warhammer 40k Total Conversion headed by Guessmyname.

Well it is important that these mods are in a playable form. Are they? Mods can always be added later if they are not ready now.

CA/Gundam/Starwars/s44 are under heavy development. I know gundam is very playable and so is CA but they ARE under heavy development. Starwars and s44 are playable but only a shadow of what they are in their current developmental versions.
EE is under development but not heavily.
KP and Nanoblobs are the only ones I consider finished.
BA is willfully stagnant.
So I would say that the only ones that qualify for what you are looking for are EE, BA, KP and nano
if you want to include the ones that are playable but under heavy dev then include gundam and CA but frankly you already said nothing that is in heavy dev.

S44 could have a release in due time, it is much changed from the last release, but it is, for the most part, stable.

oh yeah and legions would be neat.

IMHO also not exaggerate the number of mods. I think the goal should be to show many totally different games are possible using the engine, not to scare nubs away because there's a meters long list of mods to choose from (which'd take hours to download if he selected them all)

I think Fibre really isn't in a state that would warrant inclusion. SimBase, while looking unfinished and all, is actually playable. That's not to say that Fibre isn't playable but there's still a lot of work to be done before I consider it out of testing.
I think with "finished" you mean in a sufficiently mature stage of development, not "no more work is being done"? Mods are never finished, merely abandoned.

well, if you are looking for variety.
(SWTA,s44)(GET SOMETHING FROM THEM IF only a Demo)
KP, Nanoblobs those two honestly could go in with the gpl installer
Legions, Warhammer
Final Frontier, space battles
Gundam, animu
Simbase, oddball design
EE, Non TA style gameplay while still having more conventional weapons.
CA, Wild with ample interesting features may need to get a special release for this.
BA, flat and unchanging
FA, very odd effects and different play style
Of course this is only my opinion

Yeah I'm definitely going to take that into consideration (3 Total Annihilation mods would be the absolute max that I would include). and small gimic mods probably will not get included either. Also there is no GPL installer, the regular installer can now be GPL (I think), and soon there may also not be an updater installer, if I can get it so that we don't need one. While mods still might have work being done the critical thing is playability and professional presentation.

CA is more than stable and playable enough right now- its one of the most popular mods. The updater makes the constant updates seamless and ensures that bugs are fixed rapidly.
Yes, its still under heavy development, but the changes over time are really not all that drastic, most of the balancing at t1 is just occasional tweaks at this point. Remember how much AA changed between versions? In a lot of ways, CA is more stable than that right now. Its more playable and complete than 90% of mods out there.
As for gimmick mods, id at least include war evo- its very professional, unique and showcases some of what spring is capable of, even without LUA (despite the fact its not a traditional RTS). Its even played, sometimes.

XTA - Its dead Noruas, you broke it. Everyone hated you and your mod anyway and wanted BA to secretly succeed, and it worked too. Even great grahpics cant save you when no one knows about it.

Make the installer list only the top-10 played mods, and then user can select the BA on top of it, and maybe some other mods too. Would be fastest and most reliable way to get playing Spring as fast as possible.

Code: Select all
*Spring: 1944 (S44) - 1944 is a reproduction of the Second World War which balances the demands of realism, historical accuracy and gameplay to produce a fast-paced, aggressive game of strategy. The download is about X.X MB.
You missed out 'Terra and S44 is like the best thing on spring ever

Unfortunately, I do not think SWS will have a full release available in time for the next version.
We'd also rather SWS1.0 wasn't packaged with it, as we no longer support that mod, and it's a rather poor representation of what we're trying to do here.
Once we're ready though, this sounds like a good idea. Maybe for the next version.

Cancel that

As a result of further discussion with the other CA devs, CA:T died.

+1 to CA (with BA and XTA as alternatives ofc)
+ 1 to gundam
+1 to E&E
+1 to either 1944 or SW if they get released in time and also FF if that gets a decent release to
+1 to kernel panic

Any of KDR's other "experimental" mods usable? Like "Dozerz"? That was a good one.
Also, how much do you want to be that *every* mod will have "fast-paced" somewhere in the description?

Are you planning on doing a similar thing for maps? It might be a good idea...though it could be very tricky...
or...maybe lobbies should just auto-download maps more...

I will have to talk with CupCake about maps.
