2 months? You're kidding.
I think the moderation has primarily been unnecessary and ineffectual. Mostly, the threads that are locked are 'silly' threads that have gone hopelessly off-topic, when it gets down to image macros and mucking about. Such threads are not damaging to the community in the slightest and, in fact, show a good sense of humour and an ability to take things with a grain of salt.
I agree entirely with felix that any problems in this community are cultural, and that cultural problems cant be fixed with forced solutions (Unless you understand the finer points of social engineering, which is a wonderful and delicate art). Silly trolls like nemppu are hardly damaging to the community- in fact i think the fact that we weathered him nonchalantly until he gave up rather than just banning or flaming him is a good marker of a level of maturity within this community, even if we are a pack of howling shit-flinging rhesus monkeys at other times.
Censorship just sweeps an issue under the rug, all the personality conflicts that caused it are still present to be expressed in a different medium. If i were you id spend less time on the forums and more time on this promoting spring thing you seemed to had going (a very worthwhile endeavour).

Nempuu was actually banned, after he posted a short comic about Caydr being a tool or something after Caydr made a stupid post.

what the hell?
like tombom said, nemppu was banned by trepan. I fail to see how you "weathered him nonchlantly until he gave up".
Most of his posts were made to parodize the retarded posts people made
like in the offtopic thread about guns where he was "trolling" the woman/girl who basically said that men have a need to shoot people and wage wars but luckily there are peaceful women like her.
nemppu made a parody post about this post and the most of the people thought nemppu was trolling when he parodized the pure bullshit the user posted. For me, nemppu's post held more facts than the woman's posts
Sure some of his posts were/are "pure trolling" , like the spaceship-tool-caydr comic strip, but most of the posts he and caydr made were deleted, so people only saw the strip out of context.

Dont get me wrong, but this place is a frozen shithole, not a "civilized and mature community" We have elitist dicks everywhere who think theyre better than the guy next to them, im one of them, youre one of them, everyone is one of them.
Even the mods do this, anyone remember lordmatt's "final words" for example?
Neddie does the same thing but its more subtle.
I just do pure flaming.
Different people have different interests and there are bound to be shit flying around. Trying to say that you are above the others doesnt convince anyone else except you, who live inside your imaginary bubble.
oh and
Personally it reminds me of kindergarten, with neddies "felony 4, felony 3, felony 2, felony 5" - (whatever that means) whenever anyone is "naughty".
I agree, Trepan / Tobi / swiftspear, and some others maybe represent the only true Moderators in here. Theyre pretty much neutral, and they do their job instead of flashing badges like theyre somekind of internet police.
Tobi's PMs have calmed me down more than neddies "Youre going to be punished" posts . And quite frankly what saktoth said, nemppu's ban was swift and it wasnt flashed around like it was somekind of a triumph or a victory

Of course, i mean this post (Which is some time ago and well before nemppu was banned- even though it was locked which constitutes the sort of 'unnecessary and ineffectual' moderation that im talking about).
This community does have some things going for it, when compared to a lot of gaming communities (Which are often page upon page of spammed 'NIGGER JEW FAG' insults by 12 year olds and dry-humping the corpses of defeated foes). But i dont say 'we are a pack of howling shit-flinging rhesus monkeys' because i think im above the community, im well aware that im one of the monkeys.

Heh.
About the only thing I feel like inputting in this discussion.
As much as I would like to bash on the prepubescent kids who dry hump their fallen enemies, and spout racial slurs, I'll hold my tongue.
I like Neddie's way of telling people off. It makes it clear and obvious that someone is doing something too much. Handling it via PM is, naturally, more terrifying and gets the job done. Either way works, but so far, I've seen an improvement with Neddie about.

I like this community because it gives me a daily dose of drama that I can read before heading off to whatever I have to do / want to do.
'nuff said.

On the subject of my performance, I may as well be open about a few decisions I've made.
I use both public and private methods of warning people. Primarily I use private methods when I am forced to remove posts or edit out relevant content - often I am met with dissent because I no longer have visible proof of policy violation, particularly if I edit. However, I use public, or in-thread messages, when I am unable to effectively remove something because of the flow of conversation. Public warnings are prompted by the desire for conceptual continuity. The casual and skilled violators of policy generally frame their actions in a manner which warrants the use of the latter method.
Secondly, I decided early on to be honest and true to my own opinions in discussion while attempting to see all viewpoints. This is, perhaps, because the non-activist members of the moderation team - which Sleksa referred to as the true moderators - do not act as soon or as often as seems necessary, while the other activist members of the moderation team act on certain issues with a particular bias. On some subjects, I've calibrated my official (And indeed warped) stance to contrast with other members of the moderation staff.
None of us are impartial, we are human. The issue is that many of those who seem impartial are consciously detached from moderation to avoid injecting personal bias. Those who are active tend toward three content packages and two forms of play interaction, so I attempt to stand as a counterweight. It is not a perfect solution, and it often turns into a performance akin to Devil's Advocate, but it is what I'm trying to do. If you wish me to adopt the methods of artificial neutrality I can do so but it will put much more stress on, well, me.
Lastly, I did let this topic be sidetracked. I considered changing it about and removing posts, but that sets a dangerous precedent for the thread - how can one expect to be permitted his or her opinion when the thread creator starts pruning right off the bat? I want your biased personal opinions, I want your bottled emotions, I want your feedback, whether useful or not.

Neddie, don't try the social engineering bullshit. It doesn't work, and is completely unnecessary to boot.
Just say what you want to say, in however many words is necessary to say it.
We'll all be better off for it.

You're a product of social engineering, Felix. As am I.
Nevertheless, there is something in what you say.

Just because you think people are products of social engineering (which I don't agree with) doesn't mean that you should be a social engineer yourself.

Yeah... neddie locks too many threads. and that "felony 1, felony 3" etc is kinda lame... i agree he takes forums too seriously. it was alright without neddie being mod, didnt see any problems, i started noticing problems at that time when neddie came here flashing his badge. Hes acting like he owns this whole site, does he? IMO neddiedrow -> unmod.
Hes probably going to lock this thread, or delete/edit any negative posts like this.
GG.

Trademark, if he does, its because posts like that are one step below all out trolling. You're fishing for a reaction, its obvious.

I don't think the forum is ruined by any one ego persay. I personally resent the fact that tombom means me when he says that. Even so, to me, the bigger problem is that the community is prone to howler fits and fanboi nerd rage. Otherwise, it is alright.

When the forum is full of hardasses, pull out a a bat and play ball.
