Ok, second question, how do I make double clicking menu icons open the items in the default application set?

They do already. It doesn't change your associations...

Might wanna right click and choose "open with" and see if the association is set. Windows does at times randomly lose them ya know. For example, if you set an association and end up doing a hard reboot without shutdown, windows conveniently loses the info :/

Fixed

BTW those of you who don't get the start button, I think it's probably there, but just hiding behind something. Try holcing ctrl and click dragging the taskbar and the recycle bin around and see if it's hiding under there. If not, try setting your res to 1600x1200, then it should be in the bottom left if anywhere, once you do that move the start button to say the middle of the screen, then rescale back down to your original res.

^ that might solve it. If all else fails I can tell you how to make a start button for yourselves. It's extremely easy. For that matter you can make as many buttons as you want that can do anything thanks to bbinterface.

BTW I'm about to put this on my laptop (it's a pretty old one) so I should have a better idea of what you guys are going through in a few minutes. When I have it figured out I'll post here.

OK clerification. The start button is there, it's just that depending on your screenres if it is over 1600x1200 the taskbar is covering it.

Simply hold ctrl and click on the taskbar to move it, the ctrk+click on start button to move it around.

If your screenres is below 1600x1200 then it is simply out of the screen boundries. Simply scale up to 1600x1200 ctrl+click start button and move it to the center of the screen. Change res to what it was before. Reposition.

To edit the options on any Blackbox plugin (taskbar, startbutton etc), simply hold ctrl and right click on it.

Look, here is the thing, switching shells is never super easy because it's different. That doesn't make it bad. I's simply different than what you're used to. The benefits of switching are very nice though. In blackbox you can do jsut about anything you want to your windows gui, and b elieve me, it comes in handy.

The screenres limit for me is 1280x1024, what now?

From what i've seen and experienced so far this takes half the things i use regularily and removes then, or replaces them with non working/bugged things

Is there a way to make stickied menus stay between restarts?

Unfortunately no, however it only takes 20 seconds to resticky them...

Sleksa, go here: http://www.psyci.com/bbi/ Download bbinterface and replace the files in your plugins folder.

Then you can make your own start button, and any other button of fram you like.

You can do pretty much anything with bbinterface.

The thing you have to understand is the fact that switching shells can increase your productivity by a large margin. Case in point, stickyed menus. WIth the menus already up you save the time getting to the menus and you generally get used to where stuff is very quickly, this means that it decreases time looking for random shit. Another wonderful thing, desktop menu, all your desktop icons on your desktop but nicely arranged that stays stuck to the desktop.

You could do that with windows explorer, but every time you switched to the desktop you would have to remaximize the windows explorer window.

Also, another thing you may or may not have noticed... Alt+tab, there is a blank space in the list, that is to minimize all your windows (super handy for me personally, because it saves mousing time).

I use my quicklaunch folder for my defacto program launching bar. You could honestly make something like that with whatever you want, just I like quicklaunch for that.

You ened to understand this before starting... With blackbox you can add to remove or edit your desktop interface and gui in almost any way you can think up, it's a very very powerful tool, but it does take a little bit of time to set up. For me personally, it was very much worth it.

Here are some helpful links:
QUick note: Keep in mind, this stuff is with my settings because I had a lot of trouble learning how to set it up and this was just an attempt to make it easier for people without going through all kinds of crap to get there.

FUCKING WIN!

SystembarEX, get it. It will solve any and all problems you have with your taskbar.

God I love this thing!

BTW once you have it all set up simple go to blackbox>configuration>plugins>load/unload> and unload bbleanbar and bbinterface.

I did try it out, but tbh it was a bit much for me, also, performance gain seemed negligible :/

It kinda looks like explorer with an alternate theme to me.

You gonna understand, I went through about 15 shells before I found one that pleased me to any extent. The moment I saw bbclean I fell in love. Ultimate customizeability, it's wonderful :P

Here's a clarification of the things i cant get to work.

1) start button
2) the programs dont "clip" into the taskbar, but rather the taskbar always stays on top, when i tick the always stay on top, it gets under the programs.
