Best Game for the PS2 (bar none) but again it's short and when it's done it's done (and by that I mean after you spend a week obsessively beating every game-mode and difficulty) is REZ... problem is because it is so completely awesome it's a little hard to find. Some places are selling it for more then it retailed for.

I got Rez for dirt cheap from the clearance bin when I got my PS2, I think it's overrated but then again I've seen abstract graphics and techno music in Kenta Cho's games before so it left less of an impression on me.
Final Fantasy is overrated too IMO, not that great of an RPG. Grandia 2 is much more fun to play despite having weaker graphics. Overall I prefer games with more interesting combat systems since I'll be doing a whole load of fighting in those games.
I also hated Devil May Cry 3. Difficulty isn't an issue, generating it with a horrible camera is.
Ratchet and Clank is a good series, I only played the second but it was a lot of fun. Kinda lacks diversity though, I'm not even done with the game and I already feel I've had enough of that gameplay.
I think overall the most awesome game is indeed Earth Defense Force 2 (Global Defense Force in Europe). 50 missions of shooting giant alien insects may sound repetitive and stupid yet it somehow manages not to be.
Oh and Psychonauts is worth a look if you haven't got it in another format yet.

What? Are you seriously comparing Kenta Cho's games and Rez? They're not even remotely similar.

Grandia II also has the worst story in the history of RPG games, and that says a lot.

Did you get to the whales in the "fear is the mind killer" level?

No but I didn't go all "whooo abstract graphics!" when playing the game which most people seem to do

Yeah and despite that it was still fun to play, that says a lot about its gameplay.

I loved Grandia 2's game play, it made up for some holes in the story line. I've seen worse stories anyway. Game play was superb.

Uh? No. Most people like Rez because the gameplay, music, sound effects and graphics all fits so nicely together.
Not because it has techno music and abstract graphics.

Kingdom Hearts II.
It's somewhat less kiddy-ish than Kingdom Hearts I.
That is all.

I have the first 4 Rachet and Clank games, they're all pretty good. The second one had a new game+ thing and I ended up on my fourth runthrough.

Played the PC release, it was pretty cool, especially the simultaneous turnbased combat was nice.

I liked playing Rez the first time when it used a dial and was called Tempest (circa 125 years ago).

FFX is so bad it makes my butt hurt. Seriously, enemies that are one-hit-killed if you use the exact right character with the exact right move so all you do is match enemies to their weaknesses and do that over and over again while walking along a single path with enemies popping up every five steps. What kind of combat system is that, it's like a big game of rock-paper-scissors where you can see what your enemy will pick. Yeah, play it for the story all you want but there's no "disable random encounters" option in the menu. If there was the game might have been bearable.

But its now a hell of a lot more button mash-y than KHI, which was already a button mashing game.

Tempest isn't even remotely similar to Rez. Nothing is really.

You know a good game? There's several steps to getting it, you see.
1.) Get an Xbox 360.
2.) Buy 'Assassin's Creed'
3.) Play.
It's an amazing game.
