Here we go again, do you guys ever shut the hell up and stay on topic, even after the other post was locked thanks to you guys you now have to de-rail another thread that was actually having some good discussion!

We need moderators from all different time zones. At the moment you guys are spread a bit thin methinks.

cleric, look at my post in th last locked thread detailing howto troll the forums and get away with it, and all will become apparent.

I've skimmed over it and from what i read it is really really true, this community has got to the point where we need more moderators, moderators to actually step up and ban more people. No three strikes, it's called common sense, you want to post utter crap, there's the off topic forum for that, ban them for gods sake.

You mods are more like therapists who try to fix things through group hug sessions instead of being a little bit more manly and hit the red the ban button when appropriate.

Look, you won't lose worthy community members through banning. Those who aren't complete dipshits will return anyway as they know, it was the proper consquence for their actions.

We'll see if anything changes...

Yeah, I'm up for Mr.T style bannage.

No more "if you do it three or four more times, we might have to think about writing you a letter!"

Very true, group hugs and peaceful resolutions do work but there's a large proportion of society that either isnt bothered about it, sees it as a nuisance, or just isn't bothered as they're out to cause trouble. These people need a kick up the arse or your sending them the message its OK to do what they're doing.

Coming from someone who already tried to de-rail the thread? You are such a follower.

I pretty much totally agree with Swiftspear on most of the posts he makes in this forums and his approach to moderation, which is not something common.

TBH the vast majority of threads that get derailed are because people react to random and insignificant posts by other members that they call trolls. They moan that the thread is being derailed whilst actually helping derail it themselves.

Basically, a lot of the members in this forums need to stop being EMO and just get on with the discussion the thread was intended for rather than acknowledging single sentence posts of no significance and bitching every time someone posts something off topic, however short or long that post may be.

How does derailing make me a follower? Isn't the very nature of derailing synonymous with 'breaking new ground', 'going where the tracks aren't', 'leaving the beaten path' and so on?

:P

(Surely the irony if your post is now palpable ;) )

Anyway, I've had my fun. Move along now!

this is not a single sentence post. These me three posts are annoying, even when they agree with you.

Actually demos post is an attempt to use paranoia and dismissal to quash the thread as detailed in my how to troll the forums post.

Your bomb picture post could also be attributed to the howto troll the forums post.

That is the problem.
One person going offtopic a bit adding in crap leads to everyone commenting on it, that is what needs to be moderated, people posting it need a true warning or a true temp/perm ban depending on how much they do it.

I am totally with AF on all of this.

@warlord - you made a dumb comment, then someone joined in, then you did it again, that should instantly be a proper warning.

No i am not going off the topic myself as i am still talking about what this topic is for, discussing the moderation, your post was not and should live only in the offtopic forum.

Surely the line isn't so fine between 'light humour' and 'being an ass'.

Derailing a thread is one thing, but where would online chat be without irrelevant, witty asides ;)

That being said, certain people do have a habit of posting regularly without adding anything to the discussion at hand, without naming names >_>

So you thinking posting
Perhaps we should bake them a cake too?

¬_¬
That has nothing what-so-ever to do with anything, and start another person posting useless waste is a good thing?

I thought it was entirely relevant. It was quite clearly a riposte to swiftspear, in response to this:
When intentional, yes... I'd agree. However, the vast majority of people use these kind of argumentative fallacies just out of habit. Also, it can be really hard to moderate stuff like that unless as a moderator you understand the context of the argument, which is why it often gets missed when it is being used intentionally, especially in the content creation forums where we currently don't have many active moderators who know what they are talking about.

Ideally when we catch people doing stuff like that, we give several fair warnings and then start taking action if they continue getting caught.
Which to me, sounded like "'let's give them several warnings, consider their psychological frame of mind, look at their early childhood, talk them through why they need to do this, think about whether they are really trolls, or just being annoying to get a point across, then maybe think about chastising them".

With my feelings being nicely summed up in "Instead of banning these idiots, why don't we bake them a cake, and give them a pat-down and a shiatsu?"

Nothing personal, swift, I just prefer benevolent, yet iron-fist no-nonsense moderation. I think a holistic approach such as the one you have taken has left this forum a rather nasty battleground of petty bickering, useless flames, and idiots such as myself posting big pictures of bombs.

What you said really didn't contribute to anything he said.

Bingo! What i am trying to get to happen, actual moderation, rather than what is going on now = joke.
