Good job, coze compiling from source did my nut in :P

If we had packages a lot of ubuntu users will come.
Just to let you know, there are .debs for 0.75b2 that yoko made, its just hard to find them :p

Ubuntu and linux in general is spring's best chance. We also need better offical support for linux in the wiki and download page.
How is Linux Spring's best chance? Perhaps 0.5% of gamers use Linux exclusively.

It's like saying that exporting to Andorra is Coca-Cola's best chance.

Shit!! Awsome video man gj..
Complaints :) :best part imo when the masses of tanks drive and get bombarded by berthas...more scenes like these.. you know, epic!
please avoid showing units up close..(not their best side)take more parts showing ca massive battles cause it has effects noob might get axcited about...suggestion for next video.take the map tempest,it looks good and its big.make a huge battle on it.. and cap it all..like a few berthas shoot but show em from a medium rtange not from up close. liked the scene with the windgens farm more of that, even though u wont likely to see such a thing in game.more bombardment...massive troops with bombardment and nukes nuking them...that is best..
maybe make it liek in supcom trailer...1 single map with the vid showing the progress...from the commander building the first lab to massive forces going head to head ...show more of nota's sea battles..they own..especially from the perspective of a plane being flakked...awsome..
unclude xta this time.and dont say its total annihilation..cause that might push people who didnt like ota away even though they might have liked spring.plz concentrate on mods that have nice visuals...noobs watching the flik wont remember mod names.. so it doesnt matter..most important job of a spring flick is to show the best visuals with the biggest fights acompanied by awsome inspiring music...our most important goal is to make them download the lobby and log in... after that they will ask what to do and what to download anyways.. they wont know what ba c gundam or kp are..by the way u can stick some lines where features of spring are written, they should pop up like inb commercial games.. we need a nice robotic font to make it look more proffesional...

Wow, awesome video Pendrokar!!! Props for that, very nice and really shows off Spring well.

Perhaps make a new topic for that video so people in the community already can go check it and post their comments/support on the gametrailers site.

Nice choice of music too, who made that music?

Once I build my new rig (parts should arrive on tuesday) perhaps I can help you out if you fancy making a few more videos. One idea would be to make a short series of videos, release 1 every week or two showing different use of tactics/strategy including micro and macro and variations of units/structures that work well to win battles.

That way noobs can get a better idea of how Spring can be played and the elements of micro and macro involved in the game, and also emphasise the diversity of style/approach people can take in battles.

Of course, maintain the epic style of this video. What do you think?

Props again though...great effort.

Uploaded to Gametrailers for better quality, but is still compressing!

PS. 3 Minutes to get with the music(should have just added another song) so everything is quick in it and I didn't put in it all I wanted!
possibly the best spring video i've seen.

Cinematography in that one is the best I've seen. I agree with Dem0 that you should combine that with subject matter that teaches nubs how to play the game properly.

messages like the one i just recieved on yahoo are why we are having trouble attracting new players:

*edited out*: yeah. fuck it. i'm not going to try to play with other people on spring again after that.
*edited out*: rude, arrogant bastards.

im attempting to extract more information. but from what ive heard from this person, it isnt the first time they've been flamed out of a battle room.

But... name a multiplayer RTS where that DOESN'T happen?

edit. Not justifying flaming or anything. Just pointing out that your acquaintance should probably temper his expectations.

thats right people, the spring community is TOO STUPID to go to FU or UF to download a map. and apparantly too rude to even bother requesting a map change.

if we want the community to grow, more games to be played, its simple: DONT DRIVE AWAY NEW PLAYERS!

and perhaps Cup needs to install telepathic download software into UF, because its obviously too hard to use, if people need to spend more than 3 seconds looking for a map, they wont bother. I propose that UF reads players minds and automatically downloads the exact maps and mods that they will need for them.

You used to be able to click the minimap and it would take you directly to the map.

Seriously though, its worse than that in most multiplayer games. They'll just walk into a room and immediately start calling everyone gay nigger jews. Spring is pretty tame, its mostly egos and divas.

It's easy, if the player is an asshat give him Speedmetal and Greenfields, that should cover 99.9% of the cases.

Doesn't matter what rig I had cause I used F10 recording which makes the game slow enough to record every frame, that is why it's so clean!

!!!INCLUDE SATIRIK'S TASCLIENT INTO SPRING!!!
Easier to use and understand!

I'm usually the first one to say that a lot of the people in the community are complete and utter TWATWAFFLES these days.

Used to be the case that everyone could join any game and play. People were patient but still tried to get things moving along (ally, team, colour, ready up and wait) and it was no problem to spectate the vast majority of games.

On top of that, people didn't rage quit all the time and ruin games for everyone else.

This has all changed. Now if you join a game, you're likely to be granted with no response whatsoever or "READY UP FAGGOT START GO NOW" and "KICK THE NOOB BAN HIM PLZ" (and hosts often actually do this even if they havn't put a rank limit on their game).

Spectating games is pretty much a total no-go as far as team games go. Even if you ask to spec, you are likely to get ignored and just kicked without even so much as a "no" just as the game is launched after sitting waiting there for 5-10 mins, instead of the host just telling you so you can go find another game to watch in the same time. *EXTREMELY ANNOYING!!!*

Also the more recent people to join the community that host games ALL seem to believe in this myth that spectators will totally ruin a game and make it lag way way way more than usual. THIS IS BULLSHIT.

It never used to be like this, largely because people were actually NICE TO EACH OTHER. I'm guilty of being lame myself sometimes too I'll admit, mainly because I get so pissed at other idiots that I end up being one myself, holding grudges, and I think this is happening with more and more people now.

The other main reason is because less people host now than before, so the hosts basically do whatever the hell they like because they know that their game is the only option and people won't just transfer over onto another host if they act like twatwaffles.

Spectating is a great way to learn how to play and also a good form of entertainment to just chill and fly about with the ingame camera watching the carnage. Kicking specs is just annoying.

[13:18:23] Battle closed
That was the first and only battle I tried to join this afternoon, while I was drinking some soup so couldn't really play, and it was the only game open with players.

Thankfully the 1v1 community still has a lot of people who have been around a long time and still has some respect. Most 1v1's you'll get upwards of 6 specs, often up to 15. No lag is caused in the game and the hosts don't mind spectators. This is the way it should be.

But yeah, I find myself more and more frequently dropping to these peoples level just out of spite because the shit they do is so fucking annoying. Sometimes I feel like i just want to stab these newcomers in the head with a pitch fork because they show no respect, don't care about anyone else and only their own enjoyment, and are generally complete asstards to anyone who so much as tries to chat to them.

Yesterday I was on Spring for 5 hours straight trying to get in a decent team game. Literally something like 10 games in a row (all on delta dry ofc since thats all anyone ever fucking hosts) were messed up by multiple rage quits. Seriously...the Spring player base is getting more retarded and acting more like 8 year old kids every day, whilst at the same time getting smaller, less friendly and less fun. WTF!

*rant over*

Damn I feel better now.

Can you not host demo? Every time I see spect kickers I make fun of them these days. I would also say there's far too much delta dry 5v5 6v6 being played atm. People who know better should host different maps.

But if we host different maps, nobody will want to play.

It's a catch-22.

Eh, 200-225 players is still pretty good considering where we started at.. It is hard to compete with pro games because they not only have more money/time to spend on development but they have a fan base that is so much larger.. I've always thought (and still think) that spring is one of the coolest engines I've ever played around with. Personally, I don't mess with it anymore due to a lack of time; but then again I'm not spending time playing these other huge commercial games either (supcom demo was enough for me personally, and I haven't followed up any mods that have been created for it at all).

Those people are just lazy bastards... The only true long-term solution would be to implement direct downloads from FU (or any other map provider in the future in case FU shuts down, not likely) through the lobby client. Unfortunately this could have been implemented in the past but never was due to cup not being trusted, or some other idiotic drivel..
