I propose that we create a total conversion/TC forum.

that is the problem, they are not Total conversions of a game as there is no game.. they are just games content packages that can run in the spring engine.

hence why I wanted to call them game package.

I think mod/modder sounds cool. Why not just call the TA mods, uh, TA hacks or something instead?

I mean, game content package, total conversion, sounds really boring.

well that is also a problem, they are moding the content from ta not TA... that is also why I call them TA:S. Short for TA:SCOOTER PIE... no just kidding... TA:Styled is what I really mean. That way I can avoid the whole nasty stolen content issue.

and again, gundam and EE are not TA mods.

QFT. This is something that's been annoying me for some time now. There's quite a difference between tweaking fbi's and effects, and building your own models textures and scripts from scratch.

Back to the original topic, I would definitely recommend working from scratch- both because of the growing mediocrity of TA-based mods, and because of the fact that making your own content is DAMN FUN.

Of course its fun, you get to watch and nurture YOUR creations destroying more of YOUR creations shooting using YOUR scripts and being animated by YOUR hand.

To my mind, "mod" = "module", instead of "mod" = "modification", when speaking of spring.

I like that.

me to.

I do not because mod means modification. Like it or not, there needs to be a new term.

We could at least finish removing references to "TA Spring" on this site.

by zwzsg
But then, "Spring", alone, would be un-googlable!

The whole "check it out it's a TA remake in 3D" brings in more people than "check it out it's an awesome open source RTS crowding with mods".

something about that post makes me sad

yes! we should not forget that. check the lobby, over 95% percent of games played are ta based.

this forum is full of modders who all like their mods, which is understandable. but, in reality, spring is still what it was made to be: a way to play total annihilation in 3d. and that's what people use it for.

and the name for mods who don't use any of the units of the game of which they use the engine is total conversion. no need to invent a term, the term has existed for ever. nanoblobs, gundam and ee are total conversions of ta, running on the spring engine.

I find calling gundam a conversion of TA denegrating and do not see it as appropriate. That is why GUNDAM RTS and GUNDAM ANNIHILLATION are separate!

sorry to hear it, but that's what it is.
wikipedias definition of total conversion wrote:A total conversion is a mod of an existing game that (usually) replaces almost all of the artistic assets in the original game, and sometimes core aspects of gameplay
that's exactly what you did, right? i mean, it's even in the wiki:
http://spring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Gundam_Annihilation wrote: This mod is a Total Conversion to place the Gundam Universe into spring game format.

what he said.

TC is a term as old as Doom, that's 12+ years.

Total conversion still means you turn a game into something else. Spring is not a game therefore there is no conversion, only content packs. Gundam is as much a TC of Spring as an MP3 is a TC of Winamp.
