Same here... UV mapping is annoying and I did it twice for my plane...
Texture looks good except for the colours (just not my cup of tea) and there was something about not skinning your models but what the hell...

Yeah some critics would be nice about the model (wasted faces) the uv map especially because me for myself got no real experience at all and I'd like to know if I'm doing good or improve and learn from my mistakes. I guess everyone wants that.
Your texture does look good it's just the colours :)

I can't give help or critic, I am still a nub at UV mapping. I do have a couple that looks ok...
Anyhow, yours is pretty good for a first try

Bump maps are your friends

. I recently figured out they exist and they can really bring a unit to life

I see a little bit of, TOO MANY POLIES!
Seriously, way too many on a ship where 200 could probably look fine..
Keep trying..

Triangles? Tesselate it and tell the poly count again. I'm pretty sure it's more than 965 tris...

Actually it looks nothing like

Yeah, triangulate those and give us a new count (several thousand it will be

)

Not if it's all quads. I guess it'll be around ~1800-2000.

That's the starship Caydr made a year ago for GEM. And since then he explaind around 14 times that the polycount does NOT ruin the FPS.
(It is a pritty ship though, you should see it textured

)

Regardless, the rules said sub 1000.

The point is it could have been the same pretty ship with half the polycount.
