I that is supposed to show that there is always a way or whatever but it sounds like he is making fun of the misery of other people. Does this dude offer any help? No. He could say "hey, lets repair your truck, like the cool cigarette smoking cowboys we are" (it would still be a gay song) but he justs gets him a beer and then everything is ok. Wow, what an superficial asshole.
His friend was drinking because he had given up and was stuck on the "pity-pot," feeling sorry for himself. His friend had a beer with him, told him to be happy about the kid and that the problems he is facing are part of life and no major deal. He was encouraging his friend to get up and get started again, telling him that it really isn't that bad and really is normal. The most important thing he could do was be "there" and reassure his friend that those things are normal.
maybe it is a culture gap or some of the subtley/culture was lost. "Man up" is a normal expression in the south and means stop being a bitch and get your shit done. Maybe that concept does not cross cultures but here in the southern US the man is expected to be the family atlas and bear the weight of the family.
Also he didn't LOSE his job, he was having trouble finding work. As in his friend was probably unskilled or a "handy-man" type that does electrical or construction/farm work.

Probally. He asks his friend whats wrong and when he gets an answer his reactions comes across as "Yeah right. Everybody else manages to get along, why can't you? You do not see ME complaining."
He was encouraging his friend to get up and get started again
Yes, I see what the song is supposed to be like.
But to me he seems just arrogant. After all his friend is honest and does not try to act all tough guy, so why does the narrator have to?
He just makes the other guy who opend himself feel like a loser. Not helpful.
The way he sings and the video also made me think that.
The message should be more like "YOU can do it" and less "I can do it."

He's saying "sounds like liiiiiiiiife to me" as a way of expressing that he understands that life can be difficult when when the man is responsible of taking care of his lady (whom he probably had to go through the whole process of talking to her father, brother, or person who is considered to be of higher rank in the family or social hierarchy in order to marry) and children. Saying the word in that manner is supposed to show that life can be difficult, but that there is a lot to be thankful for. It's nice of his friend to be supportive of him. The lady of the house was getting stressed out too, he had kids to be grateful for, he had what looked like a supportive wife, and people need supportive friends sometimes.

aaah 2v1 help help.
The song/video wants to portrait the singer as an cool, friendly down-to-earth dude with a golden heart but this goes at the cost of the problem-guy. His problems seem just like a rose coloured background for the singer that he can stand in front of to boost his image.
(For Godzilla to appear big&strong you need lots of small tanks and city facades to wade through)
Maybe because I have never really listend to country, it just seems cheesy to me.

I think its perfectly fine to just tell to suck it up sometimes. But that doesnt save the song, being about a totally lame subject in the first place, I dont care to hear how some joe is having a tough time with his washing machine. Reminds me of
this song

The Chance - Hundred Reasons
Band I went to see several times as a young hard-rockin teenager, twice they had secured a big publishing deal for their album, and the record label has been swallowed by an enormous multinational, and the album concerned lost all support/advertising. Shame, as they used to be kickass live.
edit: lol rattle where did you find the dubstep robots? :D
