Currently, not at all

But I do imagine It would be quite scriptable to respond to the on/off button, the diferance in speed etc might be trickier tough. For now It's not a priority, maybe later.
Anyways, getting the gears to only aim in the forward arc is a bigger deal and I dont know how to do that either, Im not very good at the scripting.
For the arc, I point you towards the following wiki article
http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Units:WeaponMainDir
On the rollerblades, I'll get back to you on it once someone has figured out if SET unitspeed actually works.

It's not just speed, though, but type. I
think there's a way to affect the movement rates of certain units based on terrain type when creating a map?

Nice! Can the Badger actually transport units?

Hi!
Well, the Badger is supposed to be able to carry 20 infantry troopers, but I havent got to scripting it yet. If anyone knows how, please tell :)
Some updates: I've created a MSN space where i'll be putting updates and picture as well paralell to these forums,
http://spaces.msn.com/centurion1/, you can find a pic of the Grizzly gear there that I'm currently working on!

Wait a minute... are gears mecha or robots? because I don't see how one of those people could fit inside it... or are you going for classic WarCraft/StarCraft style scaling?

Gears are gears

But they are mecha, the driver sits in a chair like cockpit, with his head inside the gears head. I might have to scale up the gears a bit tough in relation to the soldiers maybe. The picture maybe gives a wrong idea since the infantry are closer to the camera and thus appear larger. But good point, I'll look into it

From the look of the picture, he's got the scale about right, though I think the Grizzly could be a bit larger. They have almost a full meter on the Hunter/Jäger, after all. The pilot's seat and compartment takes up most of the torso, and most models put the pilot's head inside the Gear's head.
Maybe a simple equal-distance lineup would be a good idea?

Being an automation engineer and a mad fan of the heavy gear series I've probably looked at gear building a bit more seriously than the average joe but after reading the penetration stats for RPGs... I read that they go through 400mm of armour! is this correct? is there really a role for mechs in modern day combat?... more rhetorical questions... Maybe I should just go and do it (build one). ...........I have some idea's on how to pull one off too.

What do you mean, go trough 400mm of armour? Do you mean that what the weapons penetrate or? In that case, that is most likely and equivalent used, not the actual penetration. Kinda like modern at weapons have a penetration measured in steel (rolled homogenous something something).
And about building one in real life, well, the most difficult would be the balance, and maybe powering it, getting power to the legs and so?

And about bipedal vehicles in modern combat, well I can't see them succeeding too well because of the high silhouette (hell even modern tanks are sometimes claimed as simply being to big). If the mobility would ever get as good as it is in the heavy gear universe then it might work. In urban warfare it could work rather well, especially small sized walkers (3-4m tall).
A mech that weighs a 100 tonnes however is just stupid. It could probably be targeted from outer space anyways... :)

The listed penetration values in the RPG are per mm of rolled steel under ideal conditions, IIRC.

You've been reading the wikipedia article on mecha, haven't you? :P

Actually, no I haven't. What i just typed is just a fusion of all kinds of tidbits of information i have gathered passively the last years.. If there is similarity the author of the wikipedia article probably has been exposed to the same information as I.

I'm having trouble with the grizzlys guided mortar. For some reason I can't get it to fire. I've tried to script it like the krogoths v launch missile but that doesnt work even though i've tried to look real close at the krogoth script. It's weapon3 in my unit, just like in the krogoth. It just doesnt use it for some reason, and when i take command of the grizzly only weapons 1 and 2 show up...
It's strange, anyone know what it might be?
