Then I conclude that these creatures did not evolve on earth. They must have been genectily engineered by a crazy scientist somewhere and where send into outer-space to munch on your base. :-)

to be honest, the variations are kinda bad looking, like spore bad.

Tacking geometry on has it's limits and produces less than stellar results. instead, take a body section and work new details into it. In game it will be very obvious with organics that you are just shoving model components together. I would spent a bit more time on making the geometry pieces look as they they are part of that core component.

key being the cannon and heads. take some time to give heads real character and make the canon part of the arm.

zwzsg's remark made me post another picture showing even move deviation from earth life, but it was a bit premature I admit.

Making good looking original components takes a long time, so when I finally have some I copy a manipulate them like mad to see what can be done with them. (And what can't be done, directing me to the next step/component.) That why the creatures look alike..for now.

As for the spore look, I know it s not perfect, but it is kinda what I was going. I think it's pretty much unavoidable when Lego-style modelling with organic look. Although I agree with what you said regarding making components more unique, so to say.

And I'll hold my next post until I have something more worth showing :-)

I am not saying you should hold your post just seemed like you were stopping really quickly before things were more fleshed out.

Its a masterpiece, I like how dark/darkblue colors are combined :3

I think that instead of using Model's texture, Im going to GL and/or LUPS way...

Interestingly enough, made with the latest version of windows live movie maker (which is a surprisingly awesome program O_O).

Basically I streamed it to twitch, exported to youtube, downloaded from youtube, edited, reuploaded.

Nope. Even using a luarules shader, still cannot have translucency. Full clear or opaque only.
