No, no... I read that. Problem is, it doesn't make an ounce of sense from over here. I assume there's some story about all of this that I'll learn tomorrow... right now I just don't care, frankly.

Ok... Release Candidate 2 is going up, including a bare-bones Linux build. Funny, I was so happy to be ahead of schedule... and then made up for it with all sorts of issues wrestling with the damn installer.

Should have links up after I've gotten some sleep- maybe 8-9 hours from now or so.

This could also be considered a smaller-sized update build, for you enterprising folks who can go fetch a test Installer of r6431 yourselves, etc. It's just the two main SDZ files, that's all- after talking to people, it just seems like it's not very realistic to produce a one-size-fits-all distribution package for Linux, like we'd do for Windows, which is a bummer because I have a very pretty installer that does a lot of cool things for Windows users. Ah well.

The Windows build includes an updated City map with faster fog, pre-set-up MP and other goodies, so it's probably worth getting, if you have broadband, assuming I didn't goof too much up- trust me, testing-time was at an absolute premium, after having to build and build and build the installer- I hope it all works, but we'll just have to see :P

That's it, for now... gotta sleep now. I'll let everybody know when the builds can be downloaded from ModDB.

The build you used in RC1 has a bug where most multiplayer games desync at the start.

Also could you upload RC2 by itself so people with RC1 don't have to download everything again?

Well, what I've done is provided RC2 in two versions: a Linux build, that's basically just the core SDZ files, at 170MB... and a Windows build, at 260MB (it grew again, I added a map) with a bunch of fancy bells and whistles... and a new version of the City map, with fixed-up fog, which I'll upload later I guess.

There are no really small "patch-only" builds this time, though- a fairly large number of things got changed, especially the installer application itself.

Oh, and I hurt my knee yesterday. I was taking a stump out with a chainsaw, and was literally just standing back up from kneeling on the ground... and whammo, my knee's hurting like crazy. No strain, no fall, and I certainly didn't make contact with the chainsaw or anything, just sudden pain. I could hardly walk back to the tractor to drive it back.

All last night, it hurt so much to put weight on it, I pretty much had to hop or crawl, which made things... interesting. Sorry, I know all of this sounds like a pathetic cry for attention or w/e, but this morning it's not feeling better, and that's bad- it may make getting this done just a wee bit harder, since I have to frequently do a little dance between two computers right now, so please bear that in mind, if I seem a little... grumpy. Maybe I can rig up a cane, or something :P

just didn't even see an acknowledgment so I figured I'd pick with you.

Ok, RC2 is now available to people with fast broadband, although it won't be available via ModDB, etc., for awhile, so do not use these links unless you get >300KB/sec download speeds, you'll just time out.

This is just the two main SDZ files... if you're a Windows user and you want a smaller download... great, use this as it's 90 MB smaller... but bear in mind that you still need SVN r6431 installed, etc. to play with other people.

For the full-featured Windows installer... which has a bunch of new features that are cool...

I dunno when the files will be reviewed and approved on ModDB, but I'll post a new notice then.

I put both of them up there, hopefully that will reassure Linux users that I'm not ignoring them, I'm just a little behind the curve in terms of supporting that OS...

You could try using filefront as a mirror. It works for most people.

That's one (of several) destinations that will be on ModDB. I'm trying to keep people focused on the ModDB end of things... easier to manage, and more secure than my personal 'site...

Oh, and drat... there goes our 24 hours of fame... we've slipped to no. 2 in the rankings, beat out by GTA San Andreas

That said, I finally got around to sending stuff to the German game-mag guy. I still need screenshots, though... I guess I'd better get cracking on that...

I would not worry about the game ranking stuff I have been there before just from news posts. Any front page presence on moddb is exceptionally fleeting. MOTY is the only place you really can get any large amount of attention there and honestly I think that our spring projects do not qualify, I am not sure on that though.

btw, the modb page still says "release: TBD", should change it to released beta or something.

thats how I search for games on modb anyways.

I do look at unfinished projects too, mainly to decide wether I can ignore them in the future

I see "TBD" as an accurate statement, myself. It's not "complete" in a commercial sense, therefore, calling it anything more than TBD is mis-representing it to players, imo, and I don't want to have people thinking that I'm ripping them off, when I don't even have what would be considered a decent demo yet, commercially.

At any rate... I'm home for the rest of the day, pretty much... guess a bum knee is good for something (happily, it's getting better- I can hobble around, and it's no longer in constant pain, I just have to be careful to keep it my leg straight- must have just bruised a tendon or something).

I feel that I should probably get going on some of the things that got dropped due to time issues... hrmm. The giant robot, maybe... but I'm tempted to put in walls, since the new hitbox code makes them actually work right now, and any game that claims to somewhat echo OTA needs DTS and walls, imo...

That reminds me: I've finished messing around with the model. Latest version is at the usual place (Ov_giantmech.wings or similar)

Lemme go check it out. Dunno whether I'll get to that today, I got going on this other stuff, and a giant bot sounds like too much work right now. I'm fricking tired, frankly, after four days straight of getting not-enough-sleep :P Was thinking, "hey, other than some minor crap, walls would be easy and I wouldn't have to think very hard", lol...
