Argh, you can't really have one text reading in perspective and the subtitle not reading in perspective - it doesn't make visual sense.

Still though, while some of the concepts you've produced have been nice (I liked the metal and water ones), I can't see where this would fit in with roflcopters design?

IMHO if a the Spring name and logo are going to be combined, they are best of in 2D. Argh, your text is coming out cool and all (I particurally liked one of the metal ones, very Core Primish) however it just doesn't click in my head. I say keep the 3D eyecandy to the mod shots.

And if we're going for a 2D text+logo, I still vote for that really sexy one by Rattle (or was it neuralize? Or someone else? my memory is poor), with the dirty flower for the "i".

(Don't read that as "not going to change the site/banner/imagery" read as "I thought we wern't going to ditch the sun embulam thingy".)

Roflcopter's is good looking tahts teh direction to take. Only thing is I'd say ditch the comander (No TA as main focus), and make sure all the screen shots are done on full graphics settings...

If I'm free to night I'll try to do a few mockups...

The sun thing should definitely stay. It's already used as part of lobbies, and is a symbol Spring as it is.

I totally disagree with any notion my red and white spring logo based on the sun has any resemblence to arghs 3d banners.

I think we should focus more on a layout in the first place. We can do the logo or the banners latter.
It's more important to know how the things will be placed in the website, in my opinion.


edit: Ehrmm... Now that I see this again, I didn't mean I wanted to change the logo. I like the current one.

Maybe we should take Rolfcopters Site before it´s gone as an option- some good artworks were ruined because the artist(s) lost themselfes in Details, forget the whole thing - and never came to and end (or messed up the Metallmap[again & again])

Maybe every new entry for the site should post a smallpicture of the Page beside the other Competitionentrys for Comparison..

Sigh. Seems like you're over complicating things. Remember to KEEP IT SIMPLE. Spending a day making a logo and deciding on what the text should say is rediculous attention to minor details that really doesn't need to be addressed right now.

Get a decent "foundation" established and an overall concept/layout etc and work from there. Trying to optimize specific relatively insignificant parts of this really isn't necessary right now IMO. That can be left until later, much...much later.

Heh, get started on that foundation, if you can.

The probability of a new logo replacing the existing one is so astronomically small at the moment you can forget it.

Well, for the record, I have no intention of trying to replace the logo, and it's actually shown rather prominently in the website layout I'm still finishing. I dunno why people want to rehash stuff like that, tbh, when we know that the current logo is a good design. I think people are very, very confused about what I'm doing, because I've just been showing the banner, pretty much. The first go at the layout is almost done.

If we want to be really serious about Spring. We'd produce a version of the logo that we're all happy with, and then we give it strict usage standards. If you look at any good commercial identity you'll notice that it's used consistently, it's not just haphazardly rearranged and reconstituted per each employee's aesthetic tastes, or in some cases, lack of design knowledge. Many serious open source projects use such standards, either because they have employed a designer to provide them with a standards sheet, or because they just happen to realize that their identity should be consistent across all fronts.

I agree wholeheartedly with that thought.

The thing is, we actually have a good rendition of the Logo, aside from some minor graphical goofs, on the SVN, with colors etc., set. I'm using that as the basis for all of the renditions of the Logo I'm using, to maintain visual consistency throughout.

in the mean time, i think the consensus is that roflcopters design is awesome, and maybe someone should get to work on making into real code. Sure it will need improvements, but it would be nice to see a working clickable prototype

High logo repeatrate - good for getting remembered
Downloadlink LeftUp- good because frist place to look (if there isn´t a human face)
The diffrent coloured links are great, but close to getting the site noisy.. but maybee thatis just the european anticolourlove coming through...

One Problem is the not constant use of the Red Springlogored and that switch to Halflifeorange... it is some sort of break... halfing the site into a constant red Enginepart and a orange modpart..
