I think the problem here is the incredible non-critiqueness of "baww it is not the same as original!! :( :( :("

I would prefer that the counterweight had more y-axis magnitude, and where be exaggerated barrel? but other than that it's great - goes nicely with the utilitarian kbot design we're aiming at for CA Core, with just a little stylistic touch on the helmet. Thanks again smoth.

it is pretty long, in those shots the barrel is clipping into the other morty units.

I like it. It has character, looks functional and you can see it's raring to go kill stuff.

Units should be charming and stand out in some way. A certain amount of consistency with the backstory is important, and sides should be distinctive.

But it's a game; and if you love your units it's a lot more compelling when they die or bring you victory. I wouldn't like to spend time with soulless, characterless blobs of pixels.

Units that you can feel interested in are one thing that has made successful RTS and other games stand out and weather the test of time - see starcraft for example.

Soulless could be characterful though, an army of machines commanded by the spirits of the dead... zombie TA!

I was going to do the dominator, I still have the model sitting around somewhere but I wasn't sure about the likelyhood of it getting used. I can go and grab that guy and texture him.

Honestly, Mr. D, do I need to give this guy a treatment so he works more alongside your models as well?

Yeah, the biggest problem with SupCom was that barring some of the experimentals, the units were soulless and you really couldn't care less about them.

If they were relatively similar in color and style it couldn't hurt a bit, so that sitting next to eachother they match somewhat.

I think it might be more frustrating figuring out the colorset and technique I use, so just go with what looks good.

You do what you want to do and what have time for Smoth, but the more talented people that get behind replacing the old TA units the better.

I critiqued this model 9 months ago when it was made. It was never really my ideal for the morty model. That doesn't mean I'd bump the threads to rehash my criticisms now. It's inappropriate both because it doesn't account for an artists ability to improve over time, and also it's just rude bumping an old thread for no reason.

SUCH A FUSS for a model which has NO screenshots.

Eitherway, I had to say this but honestly, I have no reason to go back and redo the model. I am sure there are one or two of you who hate it.. in fact unless I make it YOUR way you will hate it but I still like the guy :P.

Sex mate, nice work. I wish i could model like this, let alone texture. I need to get to work and buff my skills, particularly in the UV department.

tell that to fans of american styled mechs(I.E. MADCAT)
actually when fasa started their art work for their mechs and vehicles in the 1980s they took many references from the japanese macross series, which eventually led to a lawsuit in later years and contributed to fasa's demise. the madcat itself is a mixture of a japanese style mechas so, its not really so americanized.

but i like the morty guy, i think it works just fine.

madcat comes from the fact that it looks like a maruader catapult. Before my apartment burned down I had a large collection of the "unseen" stuff. I am not unfamiliar with this information.

however this is not anime:

Battletech fans constantly pissed me off with their idiotic "we are more realistic then anime" statements.. yes, with clear glass cockpits when your enemy is firing focused light. let alone erppc, shit screw those jerks, I still think longtoms are boss.

*edit*
Speaking of battletech... we need more battletech spring.. I need to look at where it is now. This thread is useless and I see no reason to continue discussing the morty. I want to know about the other giant stompy mod...

no large robot/mecha are realistic, they are tactical and technical nightmare, but they are aesthetically pleasing in fictional settings. i enjoy gundam art but some of the anime plots seemed as tho they were targeting a younger audience, while battletech design is coming from a different source as they had only a few fictional novels and was prmarily a table top RPG with a grungy world war feel to it. Battletech was only recently popularized with its mechwarrior and mech commander spin offs that usually had very little in common with the classic battletech board games.

any how im not dissing gundam, or anime. and id gladly let you take over the battle mess.

Not all Gundam animes are for a younger audience, especially the older ones.

The turrets where taken from Bioshock and the legs starred in a bond movie, the rest is from a power rangers spin off

The gold dual-barrel is not the Morty, persay, but a Morty+ or II or whatever, developed by Smoth for the original Morty to upgrade to.
