New version, 0.70b1

A new Spring version has been released, this version is based on crossplatform code that can also be compiled on linux. It is not yet possible to play against players on another OS, but this is already a big step in this direction. Large portions of code were rewritten/changed to make spring portable, so certain parts of the game might feel a bit different.

A changelog can be found here.

You will need to update to this version in order to connect to the multiplayer lobby.
If you have installed any 0.67bx version already, you only need to download the updating installer. To upgrade any other version or to do a fresh install you will need the regular installer.

The default mod is changed to XTA Pimped Edition by NOiZE, a high-detail version of XTA. The old version of XTA is still included for now.
For those with midrange graphics hardware, you can now enable shiny/reflective units without enabling shadows, to make XTA-PE look even better!

This release breaks compatibility with the current AIs, which will have to be re-released by their authors. Having an old group AI dll in your aidll map will crash spring at startup!
Map features are also flipped for consistency with units, which means many maps containing custom features will have to be re-released as well.

TASClient just won't load, it stops responding at the loading screen.

I updated from 0.67b3

Okay, so I wasn't patient enough. There were several errors.

The short descriptions in order:
-External exception (the above error)
-"Cannot assign a nil to a TComboBoxStrings."
-"Access violation at address 0055F49A in module 'TASClient.exe'. Read of address 00000000."

At this point, after clicking OK, I get the following rather reduced lobby screen:

When I click on the button that is generally connect, I get the following error:
-"List index out of bounds (0)"
that repeats itself over and over again. This is as far as I can get.

Deleting all of the files in the TASpring\maps\paths folder fixed the error for me, now the lobby runs fine...

I just did that, no dice. I still get index out of bound errors all over the place.

And the errors on bootup.

To be more clear, spring is currently unplayable, since I can't connect to the lobby. Damn, now I wish I hadn't deleted the old installer, because I can't roll back anymore >_<

Oh well, no Spring for now. *prays for a fix toon*

Spring wont even start anymore, the lobby wont start...

Some serious bugginess...

I have a AMD Athlon 1500+, 512mb of memory, GeForce FX 5700.

Seems I'll have to revert to the previous version...

I did a clean install and it works...

deleted all of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SJ
and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TASClient

and flushed my install directory... works fine... don't forget to back up maps and mods and delete path data...

I'm very impressed that you have knocked 10 megs off of the full installer just by getting rid of MFC bloat.

I did what SinbadEV suggested... overall, it's working pretty well, although I haven't tested in MP yet. Some graphical crashes in the previous version no longer are reproducible in this new version, yay.

AIs are completely borked, so far as I can tell. Every single one of them conks out, saying that there's an error. No serious crashes to report- yet. I'll do some torture-testing here in a minute...
