Common accounts for the entire spring ecosystem?

Post by ThinkSome »

Has there been any effort towards having a common account server for the lobby, this forum, mantis and other related services?

I tried to login into the [matrix] using my lobby and forum credentials, to no avail. What am i doing wrong?

Lobby credentials respond with this:
User ID can only contain characters a-z, 0-9, or '=_-./' (M_INVALID_USERNAME)
And site credentials give me this:
Incorrect username or password.
This happens regardless of whether i sexually identify as Anarchid, @Anarchid:springrts.com, or any other helicopter.

Anarchid should be fine. Its the same login as on the replays site, so maybe try https://replays.springrts.com/login/ and check if your password is correct.

My login/password pair for the lobby works both on the irc bridge and on the replays site, but not on [matrix].

login on the replays site is case insensitive when on matrix its case sensitive it seems. did you try both variants?

maybe login with an uppercase accountname is impossible as for accounts with special chars like []

Aha, yes, it was the case. Matrix requires it to be all lowercase, which is strange since i'm pretty sure i'm uppercase in lobby.

this shows a typical problem: for common logins the restrictions to accountnames must be much more restrictive.

I prefer the old ICQ approach of assigning numbers to users who can then choose whatever name they like.

But an even better evolution of that idea is the way that battle.net handles it.

User can choose whatever name they like. Actual username then becomes <Chosen UserName>#<random 4 digit number>. So then in that instance my username becomes ForbodingAngel#24562, My display name becomes whatever I want, and I use my email address to log in. In this way, you are able to use either the email address or the battletag as a username and the user can choose his or her identity while still allowing the master server to tie it all back to a single agent.

I know next to nothing about matrix, and it seems to not be set up to work this way, which is fine. What I would suggest, if it's even possible, is to allow display names to differ from account names.

@Forboding Angel:

thats possible:
https://matrix.org/docs/spec/#profiles

see settings -> my profile: there is a setting "Display name"

https://springrts.com/matrix/

(login works only when you have a account name without special chars / use lower case version of your account name)

i suggest you to test it before requesting features which already exist. just login at https://springrts.com/matrix/

My lobby Login doesn't work

[evo]forbodingangel (I read above that it needs to be lowercase, and uppercase had not worked previously).

Perhaps give me the benefit of the doubt when I clearly stated that I knew nothing about matrix. Moreover, at what point did I make a feature request? Sure, I made an offhand suggestion, but at no point did I come anywhere near saying "Please implement x, y, or z".
